there is no need to remove the front axle shafts or output shaft.
if you have a pto then disconnect the shaft from it, you can remove the pto when it's on the ground.
simply remove short shaft, top cover and unbolt trans from the motor. should take no more than 15min.
weight will help you out.
We have such large tires that when you spread out the weight over such a large area you get very little ground pressure, thats why you will always plow down with the front end first, you have double the weight and 1/4 of the area to put it.
Weight in the rear will...
the H1 Alpha is the only one with helical gears, it was done to help try and hold the torque of the duramax.
All other hmmwv's and H1's have straight cut gears.
I'm glad they finally got to you. I hate how long it took but I'm glad you stuck with it. Enjoy them as at least 1 of them is pretty nice. I bet you haven't noticed that the junker has a gun ring plate in the back of the cab. :)
the ctis on the H1 can have problems, it's more automatic with electronics.
the hmmwv CTIS is all manual, 1 valve and 1 pump. very trouble free, mine only gets turned one once a week to run the air up after it gets cold out. there are only 4 points of friction in the hmmwv and H1 CTIS system...
yup, the only real difference in hubs over the years was the upgrade to 12.1k inputs and then the total upgrade to the alpha hub. CTIS was also mixed in between all makes and models.
yup, they were available decades ago, bjorn posted a message about them and the PS mag article on them. I would buy the truck to get the tracks if he has the original ones.
there are several ppl on here with original kits. bruce kubu comes to mind. also watch ebay as they come up from time to time, esp now that winter is close.
what parts do you need? I have several trannies torn down to make repairs on mine. I have several main shafts and keys plus all the gears.
My OD conversion should be done this week. btw thanks for the overhead pics.
I have the 1600's on my 818 and I had to extend the mudflap brackets 6" to work properly. I just made new ones as cutting them and making them longer looked like poo.
