FWIW, it would give me great pleasure and an excuse to just do a spin on filter mod... If you just wanna get by for now you could surely cut a piece of some fuel proof material that only needs to support enough of the filter to keep
it toward the upper end of the canister.. Just my 2cents...
Here’s some photos of mine I had on the work bench.. My inside measurement from top to water separator shelf is like 4 3/4”.. And overall length is at 6 1/2”.. Hope these photos give you some info..

That looks odd... you can see where there was a shelf around the 2" mark on the ruler... I have my filter canister sitting out, Ill take a picture of it tomorrow. It looks like your missing about a 1 to 1 1/2" piece that sits in the bottom of the canister.. No bueno.....

Thanks...have seen this mod earlier and had planned on doing something similar...Just though I might try to use the pressure sensor thats already on there.. Ill do some probing on it and see which wires do what.. If anyone else has info please feel free..

But shouldn't the path of least resistance take the excess air and move it to the air cleaner housing like i imagine this system would work.. Pressure builds up and air moves freely in and out of vent lines via the terminating point in the air filter housing....so if i put air in vent line...
So, 1989 M998, Replaced tranny and tcase and was about to reinstall vent lines.. Saw the TM for the “new” setup which I can handle fine. Was checking for obstructions in line by blowing a little air through lines. The lines definitely returned air back to my end after I put a little pressure...
Installed my rebuilt tranny and tcase...Finished the evening off with installing the starter also, old style front mounting bracket 🤣
Only took 3 hours all together.. I will definitely be replacing that bracket if that starter ever comes out again..What a boreass, good thing I have some guns on...
Kascar and RubberDuck have em.. 6 for $50... RDH10-TRB-NF-K1
Bought some but havent put em on yet. They look like good quality.. and they are black..not that flashy red 😂🤣
