I get asked the roller question more than any other. Sometimes if I'm feeling a little freaky I tell em its a gigantic dough roller. I believe in the manual it is called an 'unditching device' It also makes a comfy seat believe it or not just don't ride up there when I'm driving.
It's all good...
Wow love the original pictures. After looking at the pictures of the upper side armor again I don't think it has been cut, just has those tubes welded to it. Best of luck with the parts and good save.
David here is a link to the T48/SU57 resto i was telling you about, i couldn't get the pm to go to you so putting the link here. Diamond T made the T48's also.
SU 57 Half- Track
I went up for a visit yesterday it is a really cool shop. I wish I lived closer. You might have the best running halftrack I've heard yet. It sure was smooth and quiet. Merry Christmas!
Hey David you work fast. I need to borrow a couple of items to repro if it is ok, that plate the pedestal bolts to and the two channels that attach it to the back of the cab partition. My fabricator can make you a new set also if you don't have a guy that can do it. I need those for my m3a1...
On the off chance that this tank is in Colorado the aircraft musuem at Pueblo would be interested. They have a halftrack on display that belongs to a SS member and are mv friendly.
The thing that makes the most sense is an order to scrap ordnance items from a range/base cleanup which would explain the involvement of all parties. I imagine if it spent the better part of 60 years in the bush it is rough but still i hope it can survive the destruct order. I think a musuem...
Yeah I don't think we are getting the entire story here but we would need to know the exact details of the so called mandatory scrapping order to advise. To me it doesn't sound....accurate.
I have been to a lot of military junkyards over the years and never seen anything larger than the M4 HST. The M6 must be really rare. That M8 is cool, didn't know they even existed.
There is a small data plate below the bottom left corner of the main data plate to the right of the glove box door. What does the small plate say? I have something similar on a scout car.
I had a similar window cut in my rear armor too. That is a nice start since you have most of the rear. I'm restoring an M2 also but have a LONG way to go yet. Mine came out of Colorado too.
