M38 is its own beasty. Very little commonality with the CJ3A. The body, fenders, hood radiator support, grille, windshield frame, exhaust, induction, etc, etc is diff. They only appear similar at a quick glance.
Try removing the left fender and the exhaust header pipe for the clearance you need. My box slides right down and out without even removing the exhaust.
I've had that copy printed for a while now. It is nice to see it in more than one location. I found it first on Cabel's page, then on another site. Putting where it can be accessed is important. In more than one place is even better!
And if you pay close attention, the instructions to set float with both types of needles is there. I have the spring type and need the .05" feeler gauge to set.
Picked up an oddball Willys at the show today in Phoenix.
It is a Navy 62 DJ3A. It is rough, but it drives and most of it works.
Best thing is, it doesn't fit the descriptions of a DJ on a search.
It is a flatfender with tailgate, L134 and 3 on the tree. Has 15" 5 bolt wheels.
