You have an adjustment issue or a broken sprag. All the sprag cases have 2 sprags one for forward and one for reverse. The forward works in all forward gears.
Adjust per the manual and try that.
My information has the 2-1/2 ton (10,000# winch 1/2" rope) and the 5 ton (20,000# winch 5/8" rope) as having the same lead chain, just as doghead mentioned. The minimum breaking strength of 1/2" series 70 chain is over 45,000#. Winching operations typically use a 2:1 safety factor. Commercial...
The sprag transfer cases have a 6% overdrive on the front propeller shaft. When you get 6% slip on the rear, the sprag will engage and hold till the front shaft returns to overspeed. This makes them VERY effective on pulling the front through turns and maintaining control in slippery...
ncduece,
Most common failure on the 5-ton failure is in the poppet valves on the shifter rail. Air leaks in the operating cylinder are common also but not killer.
What you identified is the proper way to test the sprag operation.
Jatonka, THe 5-ton sprag system is spring loaded to the center position. When normally installed there is ALWAYS air on one side or the other. The poppet valves on the shifter rail are simply made that way.
The manual (pp 2-60 of the 211-10) even indicates to open the air drain to allow the...
Oh, be aware that on the deuce, the LISTED towed load is 12000# (I think for highway). If the DOT guy is haveing a bad day any trailer over 6 ton RATED is also a fine..... Regardless of loaded or not.
Rizzo,
The trucks with transfer case PTO's have an oil pump that circulates the lube when the T-PTO is operational.
I was wondering if someone was going to ask that........
Area52 is correct, it is important to review the TM's. This topic has been covered and continues to be mis-understood.
Summary, the lever you are refering to has three positions, low, netural, and high. None of these settings has any influence on the front axle engagement. (Do not operate...
The winch specs call for 6x19 ips, fiber core. Generally has a 20,000 to 22,000 ultimate strength. EIPS, IWRC generally goes in the 25,000 or so range. THe 6x37 rope is much easier to handle and bends better BUT is less crush resistant and not very tolerant to not winding smooth and level on...
Well, Just finished the weight and balance for some of our trailers at work. Add this to doing this for hire in the legal system, AND having access to the head of Fed. DOT.
The key here is, as was just posted, it is the Gross Weight RATING, has nothing to do with what the actual load is except...
By all means gowith the civie trailer. A little paint and the match is just fine. Just be sure that the trailer is rated for the anticipated load. We were only over by 9K.....
