I have had gear oil from the rear end leak in to the bearings and have it look like that . I have been using a tan colored wheel bearing grease from Napa . when it leaks in to the bearing it starts washing off the wheel bearing grease . I could be wrong but the bearing looks to clean to be...

The pictures are great . if the brake pad is loose you need to replace the shoes because they will come apart .

Centered the bell housing and drilled new dowel pin holes .

I think they came on early wreckers I had to get one from Memphis that was rebuilt .

Nice . rear winches are good to have when needed .

What will you power with it ?

I used linseed oil mixed with turpentine , the turpentine help carry the linseed oil in to the wood .

I looked at using Ld pistons in my LDS and found the LD piston has ports on the bottom of the piston that lead to the oil ring and the LDS piston has two ports that lead to the oil ring and two larger ports that lead to a cavity in the top of the piston .

I pulled the oil pan on my ENDT 673 E I don't know what oil was used in this engine but it was very clean ( Rotella clean ) I pull a main and a rod cap both had bearings dated 8-98 they looked real good the crank looked very good . I noticed that this engine has no piston oilers .

I pulled the fly wheel and bell housing off of the Mack ENDT 673 E today I noticed that the military bell housing holds the seal for the crank on the civilian engine it has a housing that holds the seal . I have to pull the pan next and check the main and rod bearings .

I checked on pistons and liners for both engines and they where about the same . the LDS pistons have less rings then the old ones so maybe they have less compression = less power .maybe the military wanted this because the 5 ton LDS engine when rebuilt it would go back in a m35 and not a 5 ton...

I bought two mack ENDT engines today one is a 673E and not sure about the other. The one engine has a SAE #2 bell housing I was told mack only used SAE#2 clutch on there gas engines or the military trucks .the same engine has a belt driven power steering pump .that I have never seen on a mack .

What I like about this weather front is that is case of a a brake down you have a warm dry peace of card board to lay on .
