I was told by one of the shuttle bus drivers on Bangor Trident Base that they have a couple M1009s that are sitting with snow plows attached for use when it snows. Given it hasn't snowed in several years I'm guessing they may be inoperable.
What's the NSN?
If I had a nickel for every product that claimed it was used by the military, special ops, SEALs, astrosoldiers, etc., I could probably afford to participate in those scams.
I've been in three-ship formations of C-141s flying terrain masking flights down inside that gorge; if you were on the rim you'd be looking down at to the tops of our airplanes as they went by. Exhilarating.
Never attended a concert there though.
Some GMisms I've always hated:
Pull the inside door handle while the door is locked and you get nothing. In most other cars pulling the inside door handle while the door is locked OPENS THE DOOR. Jerks.
Must insert key right-side-up. There are two problems with this. First, when it's dark...
If you're accelerating out of a turn and you let go of the wheel, does the steering wheel center itself up, or do you have to return it to center?
I had that problem with a Ford Courier once. One day I got miffed about it and jerked the steering wheel hard back to center and heard a POP...
I had a no-start this morning. The GEN 1 light was dim while the GPs were heating so I knew something was amiss. The GEN 1 light brightened and dimmed several times but settled on dim and then there wasn't enough juice to turn it over. I jumped it and it fired right up. Belts are tight and...
Death wobble is different than shuddering during braking. The shudder when braking is almost always due to warped disks, and easily repaired with new ones. Don't let that issue scare you off.
I would probably get a license plate for it and use it as you said; for a beater to make dump runs or...
Is there any value in rotating the batteries? My GPs are on 12V now but the starter and a couple accessories (that are only ever on with the engine running) are on 24V, so the front battery gets pulled down a lot more than the rear.
Somewhat related question:
Does the 6.2 need to be turned in only a certain direction when rotating the motor via the crank pulley? I ask because some engines should never be turned backwards as it causes the timing chain to skip off or some such.
Let me ask a question because I don't understand this whole 'death wobble' thing. It seems to me like if your truck has death wobble there's something that needs to be fixed, and the stabilizer is only dampening the wobble. Is that even safe to do? Seems dangerous to me if you make the...
I picked up one of these laptop charging carts from the state auction for $56 and carried it home in the M1009. They have sold on the auction for between $50 and over $100 and the retail is around $1600. It wasn't very useful with the shelves being so close together, but it was very easy to...
The idea behind the pre-luber was to have oil pressure before you crank your engine, and after the engine is shut off.
Mine has a brain-box which is really a timer that controls when the pump comes on. So you get in the car and turn the key to run (just before start) and the pre-luber pump...
Back in the 80s a friend was changing the oil in his new Camero in the barracks parking lot and the filter would not come off. He asked me for help so we tried everything we knew using everything we had- no luck. The strap wrench just slipped. So he gets the idea to drive a screwdriver...
I guess one stubborn filter in over three decades of changing my oil isn't bad. I've never paid anyone for it. I always fill the filter with oil and lube the seal before install; hand tight.
Sometimes the simplest things....
I planned to do an oil change before we went out today, figured 30 to 45 minutes tops. Pulled the nose of the truck into the garage (because that's all that fits) and didn't even bother with the ramps, just rolled under with the creeper. Drained the old oil...
Here's the link: http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamantm/6458.html
Wide band coverage: 144-164, 380-520 and 696-870 MHz
I added the radials; the manufacturer suggests that for fixed mounting you bend the radials down at 70 degrees, and even though this is a mobile application, the...
Bellows AFS in Oahu Hawaii. Very private beach setting away from the tourists and crowds. Probably not for the single guys- few single women on the beach. It's one of the few military benefits left for us retirees. There are several sites in Hawaii for active duty and retired military.
