    M1009 bogs while climbing hill

[thumbzup] lol! Mine seems to dog on long hills and the filter is pretty new. I think I'll swap it out this weekend and see if it helps- they're cheap enough. I was afraid that when I installed the fuel manager and put the brass couplers to extend the fuel hose, that they were reducing...

What is making that squeal at start-up?

My glow plugs will cause that if I don't wait for them to cycle off. The landing lights will as well, if they're on when I accelerate from idle. They don't cause the belts to squeal at idle or above idle- only when accelerating from idle.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

The filter in the first picture doesn't look to be latched down at either end- no wonder it was leaking.

I thought I would post this in the radiator thread but I can't figure out the search function today. So anyhow, Advance Auto Parts has a 35% discount coupon code that should work on most parts, it looks like tools and oils are excluded. CODE MISSUA5

CUCV gear oil (yes, I searched)

I'm guessing the mil-spec is related to the overall operating environments in which the CUCVs were expected to perform. The thinking may have been; it gets cold in Eastern Europe, well, at least until WWIII goes nuclear. It doesn't get nearly that cold where you are. Run the heavier.

Montezuma Crossover- I have both top and bottom chests. It's small but it holds a lot of tools and keeps my most-used ones handy. Looks like this:

The M1009 sat patiently while I took care of one of the other vehicles in the motor pool. Changed the oil and filter on the wife's Liberty and then got to swapping out the wheels on my toolbox. It seems they spared at least one expense on this toolbox and it's the wheels. They started...

Advantage of a CUCV over Civilian truck

LOL When I was stationed at Charleston AFB I had an un-AC'd Ford Courier. Those little windows are great if you're moving. I was on Dorchester waiting to turn left into the base after a heavy rain, so humidity was 99% or more. It was about 90-something degrees so all the windows were down...

Advantage of a CUCV over Civilian truck

I can't imagine a CUCV in FL. If it goes above 80 degrees here, with 20% humidity, I park it and drive the Grand Cherokee with the AC.

Few questions on installing a Fm100 fuel filter and electric fuel pump

I put a petcock on mine so that I could use the vacuum pump to pull fuel into the filter. Never had to worry about air bubbles- just let the vacuum pump fill the filter and then fire it off. It surges two or three times and then it's fine.

Chronicle of a tan M1101 trailer purchase from GovLiquidation.com

I successfully plated my M1101 trailer I won from GL. Why did you get so many? I only ask because as I learned firsthand, the resale market is kind of flat. I ended up doubling my purchase price selling it (which isn't why I bought it; I really wanted to keep it but ran out of room) but the...

    Auxiliary light opinions/pics

Not sure what you mean by 'they' but no, they will NOT work for the highway. The IR lenses will look like they're off, and the whites will get you a ticket. Use your headlights for the highway, on low beam. If you can't see please visit your optometrist, you might be night blind. See WebMD...

    Auxiliary light opinions/pics

If they're brighter than stock, they're more than bright enough for the street. There are other people that need to be able to see besides you. If you need more light for off road, get some off road lights please.

Made another trip into the Oly National forest for our tree. Found a good one too. I drove the '09 this time, even brought the tires chains, but the snow melted off. 117,000 miles and still going strong.

Really frustrated. .M1010 and questionable work

That sucks! Sorry to hear you're having so many problems. Definitely talk to the shop owner if the manager or foreman doesn't want to play ball. You shouldn't be paying for their do-overs. I see some options on CL when searching 6.2 diesel if you want another motor altogether.

    CUCV Radio

Between the expense of the radio and the FCC's $10,000 fine for using it, I have to think it would be cheaper to call on a cell phone and pay the $100 fine for that. I really don't have anything to say that's worth that much. ;)

For $5 you can get a Christmas tree tag from the NFS, so every year we head up to the forest and cut a very plain looking tree. No tree that was farmed to look like a cone for us, just a small tree with some character. Since I have over a week of use-or-lose leave saved up I took today...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I started mine. I haven’t driven it in over a week and it was 28⁰ outside. Cycled the GPs a few times, tap-danced on the throttle, and it fired right off.

    Thermostat: what is normal operation

A warranty is valueless if you never need it. So will I wear out the aluminum one or should I spend almost double for the warranty one? Well, nothing is going to happen until after next week with the holiday so I'll noodle it a while more.

    Thermostat: what is normal operation

Now that you mention it.... A year or so ago I had a small leak in the middle left side of the radiator, near the tank. I was waiting on the three-core aluminum radiator to show "in stock" so to tide me over I ran some dreaded stop-leak. That seems to have stopped the leak, but is not to say...
