I like the OEM hubs a lot; they're beefy. there are some pictures floating around that show the seal arrangement (I think Gringle' did a comparo w/ the Selectros?). nice design.
yes, still have stock shafts for now. I anticipate upgrading to the alloy 16spl, but don't expect to go to the 2"...
ha - nice spot in the video!!!! looked, great!
i'd be interested in your results. i have the OEM hubs; the seals look pretty comprehensive...
and, if i may ask, why did you go w/ Grizzly's and not OEM lockers? i'm guessing price, but...?
i don't wait 5 minutes; i have an EGT gauge. by the time i'm back thru the neighborhood, at my house, and idling into park position, the EGTs are down to almost 300°; that's about as cool as it will get. if it isn't there yet, i may wait until it is but it doesn't take more than another minute...
not only is that winch about as slow as all electric winches, i'd bet that you could buy a Garwood and convert it to hydraulic drive for less money than buying just that winch.
i'm not hating, just that at higher line pull levels (over, say 12k lbs) i think electric quickly and exponentially...
i am, too. I need a decent road trip to try and obtain some mileage numbers. Time seems to be in such demand, however...
I'll be sure to look for opportunities.
no - haven't put effort into this. while i don't think it would/could be any worse than the MF in this application, i don't believe that this would be a practical pay-off benefit to justifying the expense in the swap.
I actually just had my new Hobart Handler 190 with SpoolRunner 100 gun arrive last weekend. looks like a real nice unit; i'm excited to get welding with it!
i did the shopping and reviews; Hobart seemed the best bang per buck for versatile mig uses. for reference, i also own a Miller...
I'd go with the NV4500 - it's super-proven to handle way more than it's rated (and, yes, they've even been behind 800+hp 5.9s).
The second reason I'd go with the '4500 is availability. The '5600s are in farely limited supply; of that supply, there are several versions and a couple of those...
remember, Goerend sells a lot of options between a 'freshened 47' and the full-tilt $7k+ race trans; you don't need that.
rather, a good torque converter and upgraded valve body goes quite a ways. after that, then you need to crack it open and install varying stages of rebuild items and...
besides the neat factor, you'd be so far ahead by just buying a 47rh from Goerend. big truck parts are, well, big which will make them extremely hard to fit. they are also very expensive to buy and service. let alone, the cost for all the little items for a swap like this would likely eat up...
