Here is a quick test of the dynomax 24216 before I permanently installed it. In reality, I think there was more difference than this video shows. The camera auto-adjusts somewhat for sound level and I could find no way to turn that off.
The white pines in PA sometimes break off instead of pulling up the roots using your method. Once they break, you have no control over the fall. If it is out in the clear, this might not e a problem. If there are buildings nearby, or other trees to get snagged it, it might be hazardous...
Whichever of the above suggestions you use, you want to tie the reinforcement in with the end cross member of the bed (the heavy tapered channel). This will take most of the bending off the bed plate itself.
Another suggestion would be to weld a plate to the bottom of the crane mount (above...
You guys that can reach the innermost gears on these PTOs to feel the amount of gear lash must have extra long skinny fingers. I could barely reach it with the PTO off the truck. Couldn't reach it at all with it mounted to the transmission and the frame in the way. I ended up making a mount for...
I also just put G177s on. Got them off ebay and paid more for the shipping (with the 5 ton rims they were on) than for the tires. Traction in snow is definitely better than NDTs. Truck is a little squirmy at 55 mph. I'm still tinkering with pressure and toe-in.
I did something similar but used bolted D-rings to catch into the supports underneath. For the center supports that are boxed in, I made tapered square washers so the nuts would seat flat. For the open channel supports, I bolted in an angle iron to stiffen the support. Ran an FEA at work that...
The operating instructions for my deuce say to use the manifold heater only when cranking the engine or intermittantly after startup while idling roughly. I realize we are taling 5-ton here, maybe the instructions are different. Last winter, my deuce would start even below zero with the manifold...
I've had mine inspected 2 different places, twice a year. I have weight class 8 sticker and commercial tags. The cheaper inspection place charges $26.50, and required no changes from original vehicle other than a licensce plate light, which I already had.
I took it a different place once...
I've been making small quantities of bio-diesel to run in my sawmill and tractor. I have run it straight (B100) in them and they have run fine. I can get all the relatively clean waste cooking oil (WVO) I could ever use. This iswith a homemade processor using 5 gallon buckets. Have put small...
If the above suggestions don't work, make sure the hoses are hooked up right. See the PS article:

Mine was plumbed wrong and would make no heat until I corrected it per this article.
I once put a plastic owl on a stake in my strawberry patch to keep robins out. 15 minutes later I looked out the window to see a robin perched on the owl's head.
Gringeltaube:
That's a pretty neat arrangement. Is that switch readily availiable? Does the transmission rod have to be modified?
I like how it is a sealed switch.
