So I decided to load test the batteries even though I had one of my employee's do it, who assured me all the batteries passed. Guess what? One failed. Guess if you want it done right do it yourself. So I will be swapping out batteries and I'm sure I will have a running wrecker once again...
Not sure the specifics on the batteries, but I did buy the Military direct replacements from the battery warehouse that supplies my repair shop with batteries and they were familiar with the Military batteries.
Replaced battery cable to starter as it was smashed and had a questionable spot in it. Replaced one other cable as it had a thin spot in it from arcing with batter charger. Still won't start. Thinking since I can jump start it, maybe the generator is not charging the batteries, but the batteries...
I got it jump started with my 923 yesterday and it runs strong still. I spoke with Memphis Equipment and the service guy said they have put batteries and a starter in trucks before and had the same scenario. He said the old battery cables would not carry the amperage needed to start the truck...
I have had the truck for 3 years. I put batteries in it from the get go. It started on it's own a few times, but mostly I have always had to hook slave cables up and jump start it. Now it just clunks when I try to start it. I pulled starter and starter shop said it needed a solenoid. I had them...
Where is the control box located? My truck has good batterie but the starter just clunks repeatedly when trying to start like it does not have enough power to turn engine over. It use to start with a jump, but now it will not.
Pulled my GMC cab & clip off in one piece. Not sure structurally how the M880 would do pulling it like that. I have had both style trucks apart and they seem to be structurally very similar.
I experienced this driving one in Saudia Arabia. The truck would only run if I had it in 1st or 2nd while flooring it. After beating my head against the wall and changing a lot of unecessary parts, I discovered the vacum advance on the distributor was junk. I replaced it and it ran like a new truck.
I put one on my M1028 with 70,000 miles. I rebuilt a spare motor to put in, as I figured the turbo would blow the original motor. It has been no problem and I hesitate to drop the fresh motor in as of yet.
Fenders
My fenders are rotten. I am going to examine them as I have the front clip off the truck in one piece. If it is not a lot of work I will fab the new fenders and make them correct.
That would explain why the fenders are riveted to the inners. I am putting fresh sheet metal on the front and I have new inners also.
Yes, Fred gave me a sweet deal on it. The truck was one of the more solid Dodge's that I have seen, pre restorations that is.
Worst part is the roof at the...
Front Fenders
I am noticing some front fenders have a body line that follows the wheel opening and some dont' My original fenders have no body line but the repalcements I want to install do have it. What it right? Were the ones without lines different or just modified with body filler?
