it is two things in my option..
1. dead spot in wiring- canyou figure out how to jump it?
2. clogged return fuel system that would mimic the glass ball syndrome
sorry about the spitball suggestions, to quote BC " I feel your pain"
I assume your cucv are the surplused from Ukraine, that came from Norway mines? At least your gov. had the right idea.. to get rid of them ASAP lol.. they are maintence mightmare....
From what I understand, Erickson own the design now. it started out life as ch 54b, now it S-64 ect.. I think the air frame has been de rated cause of age maybe? hopefully some fan driver will pipe in and explain some stuff.
Mine in my 1009 was having the same noise emitting from except mine was alot louder.
after I pulled my cam was wiped, and lifters where wiped out.. I staved the cam of oil with my turbo oil line hook up..
I would still check it out before it went in.. I blindly installed my last motor in m1009. it bit me in the buttocks. I would at least swap the gasket and inspect the lower end.. at the min. a compression test and presure test on the coolant passages so you know what to expect down the road.
in SD CA I think in kind of unnessary, more inportant is have well serviced GP system and starter sytem . the oil flows extemly well with the stock oil pump.
meaning 3 second crank will move oil into the cam valley..

I would look around for a small 4 season and pul it with 1009. there are couple cool ones out there. Or there are some guys that have the blazer camper on this site
