Wallew,
FYI- The Colorado vehicle registration office does things a little different (at least in my county), you register your trucks based on a "stated GVWR". This means that you could walk in and claim a GVWR of 26,000 lbs for your 5 ton truck and not have to get a CDL to drive it. The...
I've seen them up close and they are actually fairly nice rigs if you take into consideration what they are made for, the 5 tons (6x6s) are fairly nice too.
The new Oshkosh 7 ton trucks put out 425hp and runs on 16-20s and they do most of the heavier work today, the new LMTVs don't get much...
Roll on liners are way to thin for sound insulation, but the spray in liners work really well. I had a CJ-5 done and the difference was huge (and you can get them colored). As far as the sound barrior material goes, someone had 20 or so on ebay last week (I searched for "M35" under parts) that...
If you have access to 10 lug wheels you could get a weld on steel adaptor made by a wheel shop that would cover the 10 lugs (similar in size to the bolt ons above) and have the 6 lugs already cut in them. Just a guess, but they would probably run about $100 or so a wheel (probably less). It...
I use to sell a lot of M37s and can tell you that there are A LOT of people that what 350s in them. You should try to find someone with an fairly original truck/engine and trade him all of the modified parts (engine, motor mounts, linkages, tranny, electrical stuff) for his stock stuff. It...
Thanks. It actually runs real nice on the road too. I drive it to work regularly and have no problem doing a stead 80 up the mountain passes on the interstate and I do take it on long trips, a few times I've run it up to 100 (just because no one beleive it could do it) with plenty of throddle...
Personally I'd stay away from Optima batteries. I gone through 4 in about as many years. Every time it's the same problem, one cell goes bad, rendering it useless due to how it's wired. The guy at Interstate told me (they own optima) that he sees a lot more of them come back then any other...
Thought I might as well post a pic of my Jeep, it's half M38 parts and half CJ3 parts. It's got a GM 350 crate motor with 350hp, SM420 trans, Dana 18 Tcase with a Warn overdrive, Dana 44 HDs front and rear, 35" MTRs. The suspention and steering are custom (i.e. salvage yard parts from other...
Here is a nice M-715 I saw on ebay, it's alot like what I would build a 715 up to, but it's ALOT of money. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80765&item=4579981526&sspagename=rvi%3A1%3A1v_home
Surge brakes can actually work really well if you adjust them right initially. One nice thing is they will automatically adjust for the load and speed without having to mess with a controller. Also, you can hitch it to anything (with no hookups) and they will still work well.
If your going to recover seats there is alot of places sell OD canvas, but I like using quality treated canvas (like used in some traps and tents) much better. It's fairly water proof, fire resistant and dang near stain proof. Any local auto apolstery shop should be able to track some down, or...
If any of the Detroit fans are interested, there is a 6-71 turbo sitting on ebay for 40 bucks, looks like it in good shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33742&item=7962693573&rd=1
I've always thought the 3s and 4s were a little underpowered stock, but I've...
