Which of the fasteners or adjusters had to be heated? And I getcha about the bosun's chair for your back. I always cramp up as soon as I get in the right position to reach stuff.

I was at work with limited time and just took the phone greeting announcement at face value and, like I said, I wanted to get the order in process. Often I push things to get the service I want if I'm not rushed.
That post had slipped my mind but I remembered comments in another thread about...
Well, the parts are ordered & I'm waiting. Bracket from TM America, Pulley from Kublo's, and the alternator from SpiderMarine. I doubt I'll have them in time to machine them & install properly to make the 2 events on Father's Day weekend, though.
SpiderMarine surprised me after reading so...
I'd like to know the Chevy or NAPA part number. I had a thread on this and Gringeltaub posted dimensions. I ended up special ordering a dozen odd-balls to get the size.

When it's dirt + grease like on the axles or inside of wheels, I blast it off 1st w/ plain pressure washer water then apply the degreaser. Saves money on cleaner. A lot of caked-on junk comes off w/ plain old pressurized water.

It's true that a few minutes with a test light or meter can save a lot of hassle. I also have an old extension cord w/ clips on each end to take the part directly to ground on the batteries. Comes in real handy.

If you're looking for preventative, you might want to start visiting electrical connections under the hood as well as grease fittings and seals. While the alternator is off, I got a good look at the connections on the starter and such and sorta figured I've been lucky that the crud on them...
When the electrical parts come in, you might consider changing them one at a time and testing in order to find out if one particular unit was the culprit. Flasher first, and everthing's fixed? Great! Keep the new switches wrapped up until you need them (or a buddy does.)

Thanks for the advice. That's what I had figger'd on doing.
I might not be a mechanic, but I do have a small clue on how to do mechanical things properly. I'm placing an ad today and also making some inquiries.
Keep 'em coming.
Steve
Nothing wrong with the existing pulley. I just want to keep the unit intact and assemble the new unit completely and separately. I have none of those tools nor can I borrow them. I'll have to source one and go to a local machine shop to have it done.

Yeah, 2 weeks ago I was fighting with mine. They were adjusted too tight and all from one adjustment when I had the transfer case installed. They're in a bear of a place to work. Luckily mine weren't locked up. Back to proper adjustment for them after the alternator wars.
Steve
I'd like to replace the pulley as well. Someone posted someplace that they had replaced theirs but they weren't specific about with what. I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation. TM America says in a post that the closet he's found is about 5mm off. That leaves me with scaring up another...
That's a good explanation.
I heard back from TM America and am trying to understand the rest of this while I wait on the shop diagnosis. It looks like SpiderMarine has the alternator and pulley that works. Trukhead had this quote at...
"...The new ones do not charge at idle on a Deuce..."
Interesting. I'd like to know how that was discovered and at what RPM (or whatever triggers it) the charging actually starts.
Thanks.
Steve
Good News: With a bit of light hammer tapping on the flat wrench, all 3 bolts loosened up. Gonna have some help tonight lifting it out.
Still waiting for TM America. Meanwhile, off the shop tomorrow to see if I can get a diagnosis on what's wrong. Gonna look for rebuild part prices and wait...
Nice truck - and I know your MKT well. I can't think of anyone who had more fun with a piece of equipment than John. Keep up the tradition & see you working it at Gilbert, I hope.

Update: 1st, NDT was right about the fan, so I guess it's a L-N 3002 AE. Went over today, cleaned all contacts thoroughly, traced & tested for continuity & shorts and went through the basic troubleshooting steps from M35Tom here...
