Any one ever bring a deuce into La that was previously registered in another state? I'm moving from Az and currently have a commercial tag [required for unlimited use because of the weight, per the MV folks here]. Registration and titling did not cost a lot, and was easy, once the bozo who...
Distresssingly quiet out there. I've had to adjust the handbrake a couple of times again [especially after leaving the bloody thing engaged and driving a couple of miles...duh!].
Went with Az Farm Bureau...package deal. They beat State Farm by $500-600 [AZ is a pricey insurance state] on the deuce, which is registered commercial. No driving or storage restrictions.
I'd bet that Ohio has a similar outfit...geared toward ag business [which I am not in].
Good luck
Recovery is a crap shoot. I did everything I could think of, within reason and budget, to improve the odds while waiting a couple of months for the EUC to clear. I read the operaters manual, parts of the repair/maint manuals, and every thread I could find on this site re recovery for a start...
1. Been wondering since day one why the grill frame wiggled when getting up to open the hood. Turns out the bolt holding the left 'strut' to the frame was missing, and the right-side bolt was about to fall out. Ended up replacing them [1/2-20 x 1.25] and the ?1/4 -24 x 1 3/4s? that hold the...
For what it's worth, the Ken Tool wrench and bar are a must, but don't waste your cash on their commercial duty wrench support stand...#32610. Two reasons: 1-it's rated by KT at 300 ft-lbs, and I found that it slipped just about every time I used it on the lugs [frustrating to say the...
SAE50 sounds more than acceptable, although M35-Tom does indeed say that SAE40 is okay [and he calls for it in his 0.69 OD package]. Here in Tucson I checked NAPA and Auto Zone...no go re SAE50..no, wait, NAPA had two quarts of Valvoline. Tried a lube supplier...same same. Still...
I have some heavy woodworking machines that I'll hopefully need to move someplace other than Tucson...total of about 8-9K#. At the same time I'll have to haul the boat shown below. The deuce provided a low purchase cost and a surprising amount of fun, compared to a used 1-T diesel p/u. In...
I've a question as well re oil pressure. Idle pressure on 120 psi gauge is around 30 after start up, ~60 while running. After the engine warms and the temp stabilizes, however, the needle starts to bounce around, and buries when accelerating. This has been consistent since recovery.
Ground...
1. Suffering from floppy handbrake. Missing the jamb nut on the outer-shoe adjusting bolt. It's item #1 on frame 3 of TM 9-2320-209-3-2. Calls for an 11/16 wrench. Anyone know the size/pitch?
2. Even w/o the above jamb, I can get the outer shoe to spec. Good start, but the jamb would be...
To add an additional bit of reality I give you the following. Bought a deuce at Redstone...pig in a poke. Had a recommended diesel shop there pick it up and go over it...new fluids/filters/ and hoses [as approp], road tests, inspections for worrisome leaks, brake checks, etc. Drove it to...
I'm interested as to how this went. I see evidence of tiny leaks at ends of the two short hoses and am wondering how involved replacement is. My engine has the manifold heater, and perusing section 3-45 of TM 9-2320-361-20 points me back to section 3-30, indicating a fairly involved process...
If you don't need the winch, and the truck is in good running condition and worth [to you] what he'll sell it for, get it and get started on maintenance/clean-up/parts/etc. Just check it over closely before driving it home.
As to recovery, I bought a proverbial pig in a poke, had it serviced...
I bought this one at a local wheel/trailer supply house for about $35. It works reasonably well, but I still spend a few minutes packing by hand. I figure it saves me 3-5 minutes per bearing, based on having packed the first 6 by hand.
