Bought a boat too heavy for the F150. For what I have in the deuce, I'm maybe half of what a 200k mile 10-yr-old diesel one ton would have cost me. AND: 1-I'm much more of a mechanic than I was before; 2-together with the boat, I have the coolest stuff in the storage yard, beating even the old...
Spotted this yesterday morning at Oschner Medical Center when dropping the spousal unit at her workplace; still there this morning. Pretty good shape. Check the hitch!
SS member?
thread resurretion...bearing query.
Knowing that the m105/m35 wheels are interchangeable, what about the wheel bearins. I intend to pickup one up and am wondering if my spares for the deuce will suffice should the trailer bearings turn out to be less than desired/needed for the trip home???
I put the [nasty green] silicone boots on in November 2010 in the course of a complete brake and bearing job...1st venture into deuce work. Wasn't particularly difficult. Suggest clean everything really well and be patient; it's not eye surgery. Subsequently recovered a boat...Az to sw Oregon...
Insurance availability is a function of three things, in my experience: location, insurer, and agent. In Az, State Farm would not insure the deuce, even though I had everything else under their coverage. Farm Bureau provided the same unlimited-use coverage as my civvy vehicles...comp, collision...
Went to the storage site for its ~weekly fire up. Let it run at about 1000 for 15 minutes while I wistfully looked into the back where all the big woodworking machines still sit...sigh. They come out when the shed gets stretched, which happens after the deck gets dis-assembled, the elm comes...
Steves,
Strong work by both of you! The running repair work account brings back memories of my first year w/the truck...doing all of the same tasks, plus brakes and bearings. The video is something that also is most welcome. It would be great if someone could get a deuce up on a lift and...
Thanks to all for inputs. Got a quote of manufacture...$15.43/8.52/2.10 apiece for 5/10/400 bolts, respectively. Memphis has 'em for ~$11, and the ones they have come with the rubber coating. Placed an order. Memphis calls 'em j-bolts...square-end hook bolt drew a blank.
Photo shows the wear...
Well, it finally happened. The deuce [and USN motor whaleboat] are in storage here in NO, and on the last weekly status visit to check things and run the truck I left the bleeding accessory switch on. aua What with weekly visits, the batteries ran down. Pulled 'em for recharging, and the box and...
Folks,
Just picked up my La driving license. Queried the person who helped me re FMV registration. She had no experience in this area, but in about a minute printed out the attached doc [this is also the third attachment that Torres70380 provided in an earlier post]. Seems to be 'gospel'...
Not close, but Jack's Govt. Surplus in Tucson likely can come up with anything you might need...plus a boat load of stuff you might want! 520.574.0300.
Thanks for the feedback. Hubs were hotter than I was used to feeling during shakedown runs in Tuson, but it was HOT there. No heat issues based on the hand-on-the-hub technique. All in all, a slow and uneventful trip, save for several lights burning out.
So, I have about 8K in the back and will be towing about 8K. How much additional heat should I expect in the hubs...Tucson to New Orleans? Rebuilt brakes, new seals and boots, cleaned and re-packed or replaced bearings [w/0.04-inch shims] last October. ~2600 highway miles since then.

Excellent post; muchas gracias.
Just came out from under the truck...adjusing the parking brake prior to Tucson-to-New Orleans boat haul. Be advised that the adjustment sections of TMs 9-2320-209 [ch 13 para 13-7] and 9-2320-361-20 [ch 8 para 8-3.f] differ significantly in detail and info...

Anyone know what size 13486 is used for the trailer harnesses? I want to cobble together long leads for a boat trailer [w/rear composites] and need to know what size wire to get. Deuce and trailer are 1450 miles away; cannot inspect/measure. I have the 70-in cable from Erik's and want to use...
I picked up a new 3" 8-pt socket at a used tool place for something like $15. Decent-sized wheel/truck/trailer supply houses also carry 'em for substantially more. Keys in this regard are: 8 points because of the spindle nut; socket so that you can use a torque wrench [and it's easier than...
