To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

My primary goal is reliable house power during an outage, ideally running at least one central ac unit, and PERHAPS running 3-ph machines during non-outage times [assuming I get the workshop built]. Spoke with an electrician working on a natural gas 15kw [40a/240v output] set across the street...

MEP recovery, repair, and first start procedure

Gentlemen, I am impressed by and grateful for the above posts. Whew! This is like a distillation of 10-20 yrs of experience. Hats off to all of the contirbutors! This thread warrants being flagged somehow for general reference [if I knew how/could, I would!]

To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

Gentlemen, A thousand thanks for the sage advisories. While neither journeyman electrician nor experienced mechanic, the thought of getting a GL unit, getting it shape and using it is attractive [might be less so when this bleeding storm comes through, but that's another story]. The engine I...

To bid or to buy, that is the genset question.

Just seeking to establish a frame of reference while looking at GL gensets...3-10kw...re winning a crapshoot. Recognizing that bad news is generally more available and more often printed than good news, [see the following] SurvivalBlog.com: Search Results and having read many of the more...

    Dropsides ARE useful!

Indeed! When I moved from Az to La last summer I had to haul cast-iron woodworking machinery...12-in jointer, 24-in planer, 4X4 table saw, and a spare diesel for the boat. Built pallets for all, dropped the sides, and tucked 'em all in slickern snot. With all the other stuff I used to keep...

    m105 recovery leads to query

Picked up the trailer at RRAD Monday AM. Total time to get in and out was about 2.5 hrs. GL lifted it for the hitch on the F150; nice young fellow. Checked it over rather hurriedlyly, nothing loose, missing, etc. Hauled it ~425 mi home w/o incident, althought I stopped every 50 or so miles to...

Pros and Cons of zipper boots

I put a couple of these nasty-green silicone puppies on in November of 2010. About 4k of highway and around-town miles since and no cracks/leaks/etc. Probably should not have said that! With everything clean, single-person install was not difficult. I'll follow the same route in the future...

my short ownership of a deuce

Hats off to you. You jumped in with both feet and have been a busy and highly productive camper. Welcome to the occasionally wacky Deuce world. It's one of the more interesting spots around.

    Danger zone!

It has been decided by another...I got priced out...thank goodness, I think. The scale aspect was sobering and I'd play heck finding a place to put it, at the moment. Maybe later. Thanks, gentlemen. It was both informative and entertaining. PS It is looking, however, like I scored an M105A2!

    Arizona Guys

Partner, you might give Jack a call at Jack's Govt. Surplus on Drexel in Tucson. 520.574.0300. He might be able to point you to the right place. Fixing a radiator is not a huge deal...lots of shops for that, but you have a 'special case'. Luck bs

New guy govt liquidation buyer questions

If you are that close it would be less than wise not to go and 'put your hands on it'. I put the odds in my favor from afar, ~2k miles, by having a local outfit retrieve and go over it with a long drive in mind. Still lost belts and saw wheel cylinder leaks and warming hubs enroute. Got it...

    Danger zone!

You guys are killing me!! I'm going to follow Randy Newman's advice when he said: "Let's go get a drink." Still looking.

    Danger zone!

It's a little eerie. I've a perfectly good M35A2 sitting in the storage lot that hauls everything I have, and that I can pretty well keep up and take care of. BUT, I keep finding myself looking at an M925 that's not too far from me! I'm thinking that with the 14-ft bed I could haul enough...

Need advice on transport of auction win

[I really need to re-visit my posts more often...sorry for the delay] I dropped ~$1500 at Rocket City Truck Repair in Huntsville. That got me everything I mentioned, plus a mixed box of spare air line fittings [which I did not need and have not so far used]. The GL tab was $1235.

List your reason behind your MV

Yeah, I'd been looking at 'em for a year or so and 'found' it in SW Oregon. Lived in Tucson at the time; had an F150. Bought the deuce in AL, drove it to AZ, rebuilt brakes and replaced boots and bearings/seals, went and picked up the motor whaleboat and trailer. Interesting ride. 26MW6516 is...
