    I took the plunge today.

Welcome Dirty1, With the gearing and the locker, these things make great plow trucks. I put an old 7-1/2' speedcast on mine. I've been plowing since I was 16 years old, never had a truck plow like my 1031. Just throw some weight on it, you won't use four wheel drive half the time. Lets see some...

m1009 to use wheel spacers or not.

Check out www.roadkillcustoms.com they have a cross reference chart showing GM and non GM 6 lug 16in wheels with 139.7mm stud spacing that will fit the M1009.

m1009 to use wheel spacers or not.

Hea patracy, Wouldn't large heavy tires like 37s apply the same leverage on the axle bearings as spacers and stock 31s would? Just asking.

    Fried resistor

Ok, here's one for ya, try posting more often. You just might learn something. No start, starter run on, and resistor bypass threads have been thoroughly covered here. Search the TMs and threads instead of just lazily asking questions. With 11 posts since 2006, And stumped by simple no start...

m1009 to use wheel spacers or not.

If you are refering to the disk type spacers, they will move the center of rim off the hub far enough to loose contact with the hub. The trucks weight is suported by the hub, not the wheel studs, so the disk type are a bad idea. The "billet" spacers, like the one pictured above, are also a bad...

CUCV extended crew cab 2 ton build?

Wild build e350, nice and neat. I believe a four headlight Kodiak grill will fit your truck but I think you would have to change the radiator support for the headlight buckets. It may look too modern though and take away from it's looks.

CUCV extended crew cab 2 ton build?

The 2sp rear is a great idea, but im pretty sure it will only work in either high or low range. Splitting gears with an auto trans may cause the trans to shift up when you shift the rear down, and vice versa. Depending on the axle ratio, the 2sp rear in high may not benefit you at all and only...

My M1009 and all its issues....

A little better pic. The top center lug is a chassis ground. the three terminals on either side are grounds for accessories. Bottom center is always hot positive. Terminals on either side are fused. One fuse for each terminal for a total of six. This fuse block is intended for marine use on...

    My M1009 Recovery in progress

Hea Rick. Just saw the new video, thats a shame. On the plus side, that engine actually sounds pretty good. It has some good snap to it when you crack the throttle and the body work to be done is minimal. Im shopping for an 09 myself, the ones in my price range are of either project status or...

You can also wire a buzzer into the high temp idiot light circut. Light goes on, buzzer sounds.

    My M1009 Recovery in progress

If it does have a blown gasket, the old radiator was more than likely the cause. Is this the truck you had mentioned having a split in the side of the radiator tank? Were you able to test drive it long enough to detect any overheating problems even with the new rad? Was that rusty film there...

    My M1009 Recovery in progress

It should run at 180 deg. The excaping air is probably purge air. The five minute wait indicates the thermostat is working properly. The best way to test for a blown head gasket is to do a leak down test. A compression test can also indicate a blown gasket. An infrared thermometer can be used to...

    My M1009 Recovery in progress

Decent truck Rick! Far better than the rust bucket project truck you were looking at. Minimal body work on this one. As far as that pressure issue, Fill the radiator and recovery tank to the proper level with plain water and run the truck with the cap off. Use a thermometer and check the...

    No start frustrations.

Check the rubber fuel lines from the sender to the steel lines on the crossmember under the cab. They can get brittle and crack, usually where they are clamped to the steel lines. Be a shame to spend $$$ on an IP if it turns out these are sucking air.

How many miles on the truck?

    No start frustrations.

Ok, there must be a restriction somewhere along the fuel lines or there may be some crud plugging the filter sock in the tank. Seems like the fuel pump is only delivering enough pressure to the IP when the truck is running. The new fuel pump may also be NG, it happens. You can disconnect the...

    86 M1009 questions

The 5.9 Cummins swap although involved, would be far simpler than swapping in a 4 cyl Cat industrial engine. the Cummins uses automotive type motor mounts. Major fabrication and frame modifacations would be required with the Cat to mount it to the trucks frame. The Cat uses an SAE#3 bellhousing...

    Transmission temp question

This is a Derale electra cool 16 pas fan driven trans cooler. I also mounted an external spin on filter. It has a provision for a sender on the filter head. You can get the spin on filter, filter head, and guage kit from Derale. Both the cooler and spin on kit come with hose, fittings and clamps.
