    Level winder and tensioner rebuild

I am a heavy truck mechanic and I always take the parts with me to compare or pull part numbers off. I am sure I can find the bearings if these are junk, but the fiber washers and the drum lock studs? Worse case, I make the fiber washers and fix the drum lock. thanks

    Level winder and tensioner rebuild

Today I finally got to putting on my level winder and tensioner on my M813. Both are not moving freely and oil is not doing the trick. So I will need to dig deeper. I got the tensioner moving again and mounted it. Next I started to take apart the levelwinder. Man! There are a lot of parts in...

help with starting without Starting fluid.

I was having starting issues with my M813. It turned out to be a bad feed line . The line was restricting the flow of fuel. What model is your truck? I had a M54 with a multifuel and the fuel tank had some crap in it.

    53"s on my 818 w/w

I also bought my tires from Kublos Surplus. 8 1400's with combat wheels and 8 new 1600 R20 Michelin XZL's. I took the tires off the combat rims and sold them. Sandblasted and painted the rims, then put on the 1600's. they are great! but I had to use bridge truck rear tire spacers to keep the...

    adding an air quick coupler

Just buy a Glad hand and thread a quick coupler into that. This way you can use it on the front or the back or either side. I always put a male quick coupler with a shut off on the air tanks too. This way you can air up the tanks if you lose you compressor.

    290 cummins

First of all. If the engine is on the truck I would want to drive it if possible or at least hear it run. Check the speedo for mileage too. The tag on the front left side will have all the information on the motor. I would take down all the info off the tag and call Cummins. They will be able to...

    290 cummins

I am getting ready to swap out my NHC 250 for a NTC 290 big cam with Jacobs brake, piston squirters, oil cooler and block heater. The motor has zero hours on it. It just needs a fresh coat of paint, new hoses and to change some parts over. I am planning on using the Jacobs brakes and the stock...

    290 cummins

A Cummins NHC 250 and a Cummins NTC both use a 855 block. The 290 will be a step up for sure. What is it's running condition? how is it sitting now? Is it in a running truck or in a frame? You may want to check a few things before buying it. Is it a small cam or big cam? is it a really a 290...

    cummins 250 fuel system troubleshooting

My M813 was losing power, but not all the time. So I have done some troubleshooting. 1. Changed filter, put in diesel injector cleaner. Result: A little better, but still terrible sometimes. 2. checked emergency fuel shut off, fixed bad wire on fuel solenoid. result: The shut off was all the...

Combat wheels, FMTV wheels, HEMTT wheels

Yes, 53 inch tires on Combat wheels will rub on a five ton. I had to add 1 1/2 bridge truck spacers to keep the tires from rubbing on my steering arm and hydraulic piston cover. you will need to change you wheel studs or do thimbles on the from if you run HEMMT's.

    m818 brake issues

Spare parts are always a good idea! I would still do a full inspection on this new axle too.

    Balancing the 53" XZL tires?

I agree with Fastnova. I just mounted 53's on combat wheels. I did not go with balance sand, bb's or beads, because I was conserned about it getting between the beadlock and the rim. I am not sold on large balls like tennis, golf or racket balls. I went with one gallon of 50/50 antifreeze in...

    bad axle vent

Hey 212sparky the vent rail sounds good, but you may want to vent it somewhere besides the cab. Nothing is worse than the smell of gear oil! Under the hood maybe a better spot.

    Massachusetts registration & insurance

So under these rules you need a Cdl for a Ryder truck or a one of those large bus rv. That is Massachusetts for you. Make the laws intimidating and opaque so the common tax payer can not navigate there way though the rules of the road. My father was a state trooper and I am a Marine so my lack...
