I do have a black 200 gal tank that is in the sun. I use it to separate water, and crud, out of the oil. I have a drain on the bottom on the side (it's like a drum on it's side) that I drain water from till I start getting oil, then I draw from 6" above that to filter.
Don't know about the vac...
When we were having probs, and I pulled the pumps, they were NOT off, just lose. Lose enough that I could pull them off w/ the clamps still on. Changing clamps to a standard hose clamp instead of the factory clamp solved the issues.
During all that troubleshooting I had several conversations...
Had that same issue trying to find "submersible fuel line". We were lucky, the hoses were still good just loose at the top clamp.
Wrote about it here, fuel issues
The 24volt motor that I'm going w/ is an electric scooter motor. They can spin up into the 2000+RPM range and move a 200+lb man down the road. They come in several sizes/ratings. The one I was looking at goes for about $50.
Here's one for $35 that should work; 24volt motor
I'll use it to power...
I kept the floor insulation separate from the insulation on the hump. First I did the floor w/ the hump/tranny cover out. Then I put in the cover and insulated that. That way I can remove the cover w/o having to cut the insulation.
I'll do the same w/ the mat that I use.
We had loads of experience w/ that when we took Elise's M109 up the eastern sierras last summer.
We started w/ a fairly new, to us, tranny. Couldn't get it to stop puking out the bellhousing. Ended up pulling the tranny right before the trip and finding that the oil return hole on the front had...
I do remember that thread, it was a very nice looking camper they made. I've been thinking of a S-250, or such, dropped in. Though I may start w/ a 105 hardtop. Could also be very tempted by one of those gutted MTK's.
I've seen Elise's "She Beast" like this many, many times on our Dirt Track Trip
One time climbing down into a major wash, I saw it (in my mirror) leaning so far that all I could think was . . . DON'T STOP! . . . DON'T STOP!! . . . DON'T STOP!!!
Her rig is currently singled w/ stock 900x20'...
Someone's got to be going out before that, . . . but that's another thread.
That was home :driver: 30 years of travel and living in diff rigs.
Seems that the hose coming up from the in-tank pump was not tight w/ the factory clamp (on both trucks). Replaced that clamp w/ a standard hose...
Was trying to get us back in time to drop somethings and continue on the the camp, . . . didn't roll in till Sunday.
I was really wanting to drop this 105, after 1500 miles of dirt track, and do some trails w/o it..
So . . . when's the next trail riding happening
Sounds like I may have experienced the same thing, Wrote about it in detail here; WMO & Surging
The thing that made the greatest dif, after new filters, was to tighten the hose from the pump to the top of the tank. It was lose in both of the trucks at the top/factory clamp.
So this is the latest on the fuel issues of the "She Beast",
Just ran two more tanks of WMO through her while we were crossing a few more mountain ranges and putting another 400 miles on the odometer. She has been running GREAT!
I would say that it was the hose from the in-tank pump being loose...
What's a BBC pump . . . Big Block Chevy, I get it.
I've not tried to use it to push though filters . . . but it should. It does on the motor.
I've been using a 24 volt diaphram pump for filtering. It lets me do it anywhere we are parked. The sbc pump is running on AC till I can get it changed...
At this point not really sure. I've just added that on to the trailer and used some cheap garden hose to test it . . . the hose collapses when I'm sucking up thick oil.
Today we dropped about $100 on some hose that will stand up to fuel and (hopefully) will not collapse.
Won't be drawing any...
