Not necessarily, call your local equipment rental house (United Rentals, etc) and ask them what supplier they get their off-road diesel from. Most will be happy to give you a vendor and possibly even a contact name.

Use a wire to jump from the red wire to the purple wire. If the engine cranks, check for 12V at the purple/white wire while the switch is in the 'start' position.

There is one other place on the fuse box that has 24V, it is an accessory terminal that you can push a male spade terminal into. I'll take a pic of my fuse box and circle it to show where it is tomorrow.

Call a locksmith and ask how much to rekey the lock if you want to keep it. Otherwise cut it off as there is no common key for those padlocks.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in keeping military style records on their gensets, but here are the links to the forms that the AF uses to keep track of generator performance and maintenance.
The AF Form 487 is used to record operational data when running the unit. It tracks oil...
If you are not using it for on road use Off Road (Non Taxed) diesel typically has higher sulpher content and is cheaper. You'll have to call a supplier to find it and either pick it up or have it delivered (usually for a fee).

You said that you caused a short while installing it, what repairs did you do to correct this? It sounds like there is some kind of voltage sag going between the terminal block and the starter. I would put a meter on the large terminal of the starter and see what the voltage is while cranking...
While it looks like a Ford starter relay, it is probably a Ford GPR. That looks exactly like the relay in my CUCVs that are 1996 F-350 GPRs, not starter relays. All Ford starter relays (that I have seen) are 12V activated with a second wire for ignition power during cranking, bypassing the...
This is incorrect, while it looks the same a Ford starter relay is not ground actuated, it is 12V actuated. The stock CUCV system will not work with it because the Ford starter relay is grounded through the mount.
A Ford glow plug relay will work, as it is ground isolated with a positive and...
Well, it is Pirate and you're either thick skinned and can deal with the crap or you lurk... LOL
And yea, I think it's almost worth saving just as a historical conversation piece, but it's REALLY rusty... LOL

Old mechanic's trick to figure out best tire pressure for your particular vehicle load:
Take a big piece of sidewalk chalk and make a nice wide stripe over a section of tread from sidewall to sidewall. Drive vehicle a few feet forward on smooth pavement, try to make two complete revolutions of...
Has anyone seen a mid 70's "Pre-CUCV" Military Chevy?
This guy on Pirate bought a 76 GMC 'CUCV', it's got a standard 3 lever light switch in the radio area, old style blackout lights in the grille and the 2 pin slave connector on the driver's side. Says he was told it was an ambulance that was...
Did you check the wiring between the rheostat and VR? If the rheostat burned up, there might have been a short in the wiring that is now an open. Check wires X9H (printed on the wire itself), X82A and B, X80B, and X90A. Should be easy to spot as it will probably be burned up, check anywhere the...
No, a 1008 harness will not fit a 1009.
I might have a complete one on my parts truck but I'll have to go to my storage unit to look at it.
Send me a PM if you're interested.

You know, the CNG conversion might be a good idea for these units. We had a bunch of MEP-25s over in Germany and carbs were the major nightmare with them.
I'll bet if you built a doghouse for one (with appropriate ventilation of course) and extended the exhaust into another muffler you could...
There is speculation that if you shut off the air to the transfer case, it will leave the sprag in neutral and not engage at all.
That or if you were to swap a 939 series transfer in, you would then have an air shift transfer case instead of sprag which could free up some drag on the...
