I would replace flasher with hd unit, check or replace all bulbs. Then check all the ground points, anywhere a (usually) back wire from the lighting harness connects to the truck body, clean paint or rust fron all of these. Grounding problems can produce some odd symtoms on lighting systems.
There is a ground point for the 24v part of the dash wireing harness. It is a 6 prong ground terminal way up left under the dash, it is 6 or 8 inches away from the blackout switch. There should be one black wire hooked to it.
If you are going to go with one of the "mats" , I have tried several and think Raamat is the best. I posted about this with pictures last winter on sound deadening thread.
I like to replace them in sets. When one or more goes out, it changes the current to the ones that still work and will shorten their lives. If you burn one out and it breaks off and damages piston wrist pin, ..well that can happen.
I got one of those blue cube vans from the air force and it had all its files from dealership on. I got a 1028 last year that had a floppy disk with its reg number on it, but my computer did not recognize the files. They all ended with either HDR or XFR.
I have had bad luck with the chinees and brazilian solenoids, which are all I can find sometimes. They last 6-8 months in daily driver 1028. They only cost $45, so I keep one on the shelf. put on the new solenoid and the starter is fine. It is a pain. Would like to find a souce for OEM 24v
First check fuses. Second, check that the ground wire for the dash harness is hooked up. It is on drivers side, to the left of the fuse box, a black wire goes to a 3 or 6 prong ground terminal bolted to body.
I have done this and it is pretty strait forward. Take off fan. You might want tubing wrenches for the tranny coolant lines. Oil will drain from oil coolant lines. Have some pans and kitty litter(speedy dry). Not sure if stock freeze plug block heater is worth doing when you cant put one on...
Thanks for that, but I have a mep-016b , actually a mep701a which is the same except for sound insulating box. My omission, sorry for that. The control pannel on the old gas units seem to have a 3 position voltage control, while this unit has 6. Also manual makes no mention of how to wire to...
I recently got a mep 016 3 kw genset. Am slightly confused how to hook to board or transfer switch for nominal 240v 1 phase use (just to keep freezer going and fire oil heater). Do I hook L1 & l2 as hot leads, l0 as neutral and ground to ground. ? This would correspond to the way the hookup is...
I have a landscape business and have been at it since 1986. 5 of my 11 trucks are cucvs. They are great for local use. $4 or 5 grand is not too much to pay for a truck that is ready to work, regardless of its age. Rust is a problem with these and I would not spend that much for with a lot of...
While the modified truck does indeed look cool, You have a nice stock truck. The modifications not only cost to install, they have higher ongoing maint costs, ie less life for u-joints, transfer case and front end. A stock 1008 still looks and is way cooler than most civy pickups, Just my...
A friend of mine bought a 1028 out of Fort Drum last summer. Had all sorts of problems. One of them was that the fuel in the tank was mostly gasoline. Just goes to show, don't assume anything is normal. I would not have believed it if I had not smelt it myself. Probably not your problem...
Sometimes the flex lines for the front brakes collapse internally. so when you press on the brake, fluid goes in, but is slow to release. This gives the same symtom as a hung caliper. looks fine from outside. Easy to test . Jack up wheel , spin, apply brake. If wheel dose not spin as well...
The injector threads for the early 6.2s were different than mid 83 and on. I think the course thread was the early one. If so, that won't work on a cucv. J code is the HD version of the 6.2. All cucv's are j code. Most civ one tons were j code , but not all.
If it is a short it will probably blow a fuse. More likely rust or some other ground problem, If rear running lights dim when brake lights are on, it is a bad ground somewhere.
Thanks you guys, the ground wire was exactly the problem. One metal fatigued connector causing so much grief. Does anyone know where to buy new volt gauges( the one over the heater control) mine did not survive the ground out.
Moving a un messed with 1008 that has been sitting about 3 months, have the following problems that were not there before: Turn on headlights and directional markers on dash glow, battery/volt meter pegs to left or 0, fuel gauge heads to empty.:headlights work fine. Turn on wiper and fuel gauge...
