    Starter bolt woes

Thats a sweet looking truck JD, I love those older 78 @79's

Did spin on filter mod.. Now I can't get it to start.

And NO you should NOT use starting fluid! If you do and it enters the cylinder and hits a hot glow plug BOOM! Never mind the shock to the rod bearings.

    Engine swap poll

At my age 60+ I'm looking to make things easier and less challenging so with that in mind I'd stick with a 6.2. Twenty years ago the answer would be what ever engine I have or afford will fit one way or another!

    Engine swap??

Nah, it's not you it's me. Sometimes I forget that I'm explaining something and assume you know what I mean to say before I say it so I don't go into details.

    Smoking wires and alternator SOLVED

"I hook them up. Front battery positive, rear positive, rear negative " It's not clear to me but if you hooked them up pos to pos that's not correct, I don't think that would smoke the alt. but I'm not going to try to reproduce your test results!

    Engine swap??

It's pretty simple really, I just didn't explain it very well! I knew what I meant and assumed you did too. The PO tried to start the 24v truck not knowing it was a 24v system, the batteries were dead so jumping it with a 12v battery to the front battery gave it enough power to engage the...

    M-1009 heater hoses and thermostat

While you have the never seize out make sure you put some on the heater core nipples, that makes it much easier to remove in the future. Also to remove the seized on hose from the brass nipples use a sharp knife or razor blade to slice the hose lengthwise and peel it off the nipple, that keeps...

    Engine swap??

I feel it's worth having one sitting on the shelf, but then I have the space and got a "locked up" engine given to along with the rest of the truck because of the "bad" engine. Turned out the dumb previous owner tried to start a 24 volt truck with one 12v battery and the starter engaged and...

Clear Coat Over GCI 383 Green

No need to to clear coat it and end up with possible delam/ future touch up problems, just use a hardener for enamel . Use a generic or Dupont, PPG ectara. One pint per gallon of unreduced enamel and just a tad reducer and first coat spray it light (tack coat) 2nd and 3rd coats lay it on.

    Home Transmission Flush?

I haven't read all the post so with that in mind... The only time and thing I flush besides a toilet is a transmission oil cooler! And that is done before installing a new or rebuilt tranny, Commercial products are available but $$$ so I use low PSI compressed air and ATF simple and cheap.

Sealing Transfer Case Halfs Without Removing

Never done that but that's what Id do.

    M1008 Getting air under load

I too recommend an IP But before that check all the lines from the tank to the fuel pump on the engine block, those lines are NOT under pressure and may allow some air in. If it's sucking air in it most likely would also leak fuel when shut off but who knows? Did you REPLACE the fuel lines and...

    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

I don't think a winch will last long getting submerged like that! Next your friends say "I dare you" don't do it, it cost you money not them! :)

Installed civi Air conditioning in the m1009

camarossguy2 You forgot to add in the price of the shoe horn you used to pry everything in there! Great job.

    Fuel Gauge Issue

I guess you could rewind it but wouldn't it be easier to bend the float level rod? IIRC you just pull the assy. and guesstamate how much to bend it, what the worst that can happen the gauge will be off. Or disassemble the gauge cluster and pull off the needle and reinstall, I did that on...

    Runaway!

I think it's fine, I had suck in a red shop towel once. I'm sure it was funny to watch me struggling to pull the rag out and shut the darn thing off at the same time. Ended up pulling one head as the rag was stuck in the valves! Engine was fine.

    Problem with engine jacking

The SM465 has a pretty tall housing on top for the shifter, are you sure thats not hitting the floor? Second thing I'd check would be bell housing to fire wall and look for engine to frame ground straps. All fairly common and simple but easily overlooked.

    Mysterious Wire

I wonder if the po thought he had a grounding problem with the fuel solenoid and rigged it up.

    85 K5 Blazer / 6.2 DIESEL / m1009

Glow plugs would be my first guess

    Reviving a parked M1009

Well there goes my advice, I was going to say pull the batteries and take them home and charge them overnight and then load test. Oh well new ones are even better. Cangrats!
