No kidding. Ive been wrenching for 40 years, and nothing transfers its filth to me like an army truck.
After messing with it for three hours before work yesterday, I was so grungy that my boss asked me what happened...I told him a garbage truck ran over me
I really appreciate the guidance on this, guys! Im slogging through PDFs of the TMs with a mouse that wont scroll up...
Trying to understand the way the fuel delivery system functions and Ronmar's clue that that block(orifice tube?) is the FPR was a BIG help. Now the rest of the hardware is...
Ok. Dug into it a bit today. Oil and antifreeze were good and full. Hooked up batteries and got the starter to turn it over a couple dozen revs. So far so good.
These were the data plates found on the engine...
Injection pump...
And the trans...
Fuel tank was empty...yet remarkably...
That's where I want to start. Verify the engine and trans models, and then get it fired up to make sure this isn't just a parts heap. I do wonder why they hacked the electronics out, though.
Seems to be a complete truck otherwise
Yes. That's what he got with it, That tub of stuff that has close shapes.
I take it that the A0 dash is green and the A1 dash is black?
Ill dig into finding the trans numbers, too.
Yeah, he realizes that now. He says there was a pic from the sale that showed the word "running" in grease pencil on the cab front. When he got it, it said "not running". They conveniently cropped that out of the pic.
The rest of the truck seemed complete
My buddy has this M1078.
Hes wanting my help to try to fix this.
Looking for your thoughts on the severity of the damage...whats missing...reasoning behind this...Is there a down and dirty few circuits to get it running to move it...etc.
Im going to start by downloading the TMs...
In that pic I see a notchy looking feature in the plug bottom side that would lead me to believe there is a locking device of some sort due to its safety critical status
Are you sure its aluminum, and not fiberglass?
I always liked the look of the extruded planks versus the WW2 looking wood seats mine came with.
I always thought they were aluminum...turns out they are 13/16x3" "Pultruded" resin jobs.

If there...
Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the nut on bolt fasteners are sized so that you don't need two wrenches the same size?
Like a 3/4 nut with an 11/16 bolt head.
I like the thinking behind that.
