If the engine runs, why can't he let the engine idle to pressurize the air system so he has brakes and power steering? Obviously it's better to tow it with a big enough truck and tow bar or a wrecker. If he doesn't have far to go and no appropriate tow vehicle available; you do what you have...
Screw in the fuel cut-off override and jump the starter solenoid at the starter to start the engine if necessary. Leave the battery switch off and just turn it on once in a while to check engine gauges. Don't leave the battery switch on and if it smokes, leave it off. If you have a chase...
Well, today was a long day. I checked fluid levels in all axles and and the transfer case, then greased and lubed everything. It doesn't take long to type it, but it sure does to actually do it; not to mention a tube of grease. The only thing low was the front tandem axle, it had a slow leak...
Saturday, I changed the thermostat and coolant. I forgot the camera, so no pictures.
I drained the old coolant and it looked new. It's good to know the engine was apparently taken good care of. The thermostat housing came apart easily, the bolts don't go into the water jacket, so they...
Pete, if you end up coming home first and going back, I'll ride up with you and drive one back. I just need a ride back to Orlando when finished a small gratuity.
Knock on wood, I have always had good experiences with GL personnel. The only gripe I have is it's sometimes a pain in the A to get on the base because of security procedures; but that's not GL's fault.
Well, the thermostat didn't show up, so I just did some prep work for paint and misc. other stuff.
I took it for a ride to heat the transmission up so I could do the hot fluid level check since I didn't have time to do that last week after re-installing the starter. After changing the fluid...
Of the four trucks I have bought from GL, only one has not had sales tax collected at the time of sale. The M929 from LA did not have sales tax collected. I received a FL title in the name of GL that had the transfer part filled out to me and I took it to the tag office and paid the tax and...
Got the starter repaired this week. It turned out to be a bad solenoid ground connection and a stripped screw inside the solenoid. I like it when a repair doesn't cost anything but time and effort! :)
I checked the brushes and they have very little wear, so I am probably good for a while on...
+2 on the bleeder or pull the plug out of the wheel cylinder where the brake line fitting goes so trapped air can escape if you haven't hooked up the brake lines yet.
Brake shoes should not make contact with the brake drum unless the brakes are applied. There is a clearance spec in the TM, I...
I think you will find that most states look at what the manufacturer says the GVWR of the vehicle or vehicle combination if it's a tractor designed to pull a trailer, to determine the type of license required. That is not the empty weight, but what it's max weight with load, towed or otherwise.
Everything in the drive train whines. The axles are going to be a major source of noise too. If you put a muffler on it, you can hear the noise better.
There's a reason for the "hearing protection required" sticker on the dash.
