Don't you pass everyone except Florida, Alaska and Hawaii with that trip? Cool adventure.
My uncle Melvin was a top tree topper out of Bellingham in the middle of the 1900's and cousin Clive still owns a fishing fleet there, last time I heard.
Clive is the cousin a guy always wants to hang...
I could go on for hours about all the good things on the early deuce so lets rant instead.
It's very rare to see one on the road. Parts in the transmission are not being re-produced and they are very similar to a 1950's farm tractor for pulling power.
They'll pull a house at a crawl but are not...
Cheap like borscht but that was like being in a 2775 round boxing match for you guys. Do we owe the Netherlands a thank you?
Something about someone being grateful for something happened 70 years ago and just wanted to help out. People can be amazing, thanks Harold.
Certainly makes it worthy...
5 tons in the snow
The M931 and the P-4 waiting in the snow.
Part of our security force watching over the trucks.
Although not a 5 ton, with the snow the M207 comms truck weighs over 8 tons and looks too good in the snow not to share
Wheel Cylinders
Did we get this done yet?
I grabbed some photos of the WAGNER F-15306 wheel cylinders and measurements.
When I pulled it apart the 'storage oil' or whatever they use to lubricate it had hardened and glued them together.
Just something else to check before a guy takes one...
Bell Helicopter
When the MVPA did the Whitecourt airshow in 2014 we camped on airport property. Membership has its benefits if you're also plane nuts.
The pilot of this Fire Fighter needed a ride, I was giving rides in the deuce and got close and personal with what I think is a 67'.
It...
The 50's
I just climbed out of Canada's first nuclear protected bunker.
All the information and links are covered here http://edmontoncivildefencemuseum.com/
and here. http://civildefencemuseum.ca/
It ties in with the G749 Preservation theme so I won't start a thread until this project is a...
.......and be prepared for a complete invasive search of your car and person, it happens. We should all know by now that this is mostly done with technology before we get to the border. They'll often ask you to park and go in to pay any taxes, fines or fees. I keep a separate piece of paper with...
I could go on for hours guiding new and visiting drivers but for now, just a couple of things coming from the north. This doesn't apply to Countries that drive on the "Other" side of the road.
Being in the "Right Lane" prepares you for a break-down and is a smart lane to be in. The benefits of...
I know there are a few used mufflers still on the shelf here. I haven't checked all the trucks so if you're on the "historical restoration" wagon, you can grab a muffler when you pick up a hard top. Looks like a guy should keep one on the shelf to hide it away from those crazy kids who like to...
Did you race em' off the line? They're fast trucks when running right so I'm pushing for some 1/4 mile time slips from everyone in 2015.
Does that one have the reb shifter on it? I need to find a way to get the 2nd to 3rd shift a little more crisp so wondering if you go through the gears or let...
That's a beauty! Untouched? I mean untouched as in not re-painted...obviously not untouched where someone smacked a fender and poked her eyes out but she looks like it did in the 50's.
Does it have the Continental engine? There was or maybe still is one like that over here that had the...
G 749 Brakes
I found some of Gunfreaks research on the wheel cylinders and the difference in the bore. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?73907-My-GMC-a-little-update/page19
Page 19, 20 and so on covers the discussion.
Canadian 1 3/8
Early American 1 1/4
I saw it somewhere, some...
Bolt Torque Specs
This is my last and latest safety bump for 2014. I am not a mechanic so do my best to follow instructions in the manuals for both my work toys and personal toys. This makes my mechanical adventures an opportunity for an education that we can all benefit from, if I continue to...
A new category of Professional MV Restoration has unfolded I believe. The lettering on the gear selector and light switch, the data plates and even the seat set the bar even higher.
Just wow detail Master H, certainly something to aim for when a guy does a G749 restoration from now on...
Using a translate site and a search in various languages for 'aircraft low pass' often nets unseen videos.
Some awesome audio and video of a Vulcan go-around

With luck like that there's still a chance the Veteran you ran into has the spare parts you need in a drawer in the garage. I'll bet you made his day.
I have no experience or solutions for symptoms like that but I think I know now why the mufflers are rare and hard to find!rofl
I might have found a little lead on what you have. Back in post #115 on the G749 preservation thread, http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?52255-G749-preservation/page12 135GMC mentioned .........."""""There are some rebuilt carbs floating around the surplus dealers that were set up...
G749 accelerator pump
Had some insight on beating up the 'replacements' so they can be used. After a 24hr auto transmission fluid soak and a large effort to work it by hand inside the carb, it was still tight.
One of the old boys suggested banding or wrapping the leather overnight so the...
