If you're buying it in Lousiana but titling it in Texas then yes you will have to pay tax again. Then submit your tax receipt to GP/IP and they will refund you the Lousiana sales tax when they get around to it (usually 4-6 weeks in my experience).
I'm not saying this is the answer but if signs point to a defunct push button controller I just had one rebuilt for my A1. I could over night it to you to get you home. Let me know, offer stands.
If the TM says 5 ft with exhaust extension I'd be inclined to say no higher than the bottom of the battery box without it. We both know they're a weak spot and if the driver hadn't prepared the truck then he/she shouldn't be fording too deep anyway.
I got this MTV 1083 W/W last week. 594 miles, BAE rebuild in 2009. Swapped the gear selector and it came to life. Now to deal with the sticky brakes and remove the lot graffiti.
Problem was not identified or solved beyond what was stated in thread. Unit was sold to a wholesaler as parts were hard to find and the unit not worth the repair.

In the classifieds. Most engines in a can are good just break them in properly.
From my experience they've been reputable but part prices are very "hit or miss". Prices for vehicles were high and unrealistic in my opinion, M35A3s were 15K etc. When I was there last they were redoing an oshkosh snowplow truck but that was 5 years ago. Overall you should be fine but it was a...
Painted the M1078 this weekend. I'm surprised how easy it was despite more nooks n' crannies to get into. I'll peel it this coming weekend and take more pics.
Since no photos were shared here's the truck in question for others to give input to the owner. It was the only M923A1 sold last week and it being in Louisiana and the year 1986 gave it away (that and the "flat" tires). I watched it sell and let it go...
