    My 4L80E trouble codes

I don't think that TCM ever had a OBDII port, it had an OBD port which became known as the OBDI port when the OBDII port came out. The OBD port on that TCM has a very limited amount of information, that is why it is mainly diagnosed using the codes and a pressure gauge. The last transmission I...

    Tie rod end dust boots?

The boots came in today, they look like they would fit the drag link and the pitman arm just fine but my tie rod ends are much beefier. Time for plan B whatever that is. I got the black ones.

    My 4L80E trouble codes

If you live in a fairly large town/city check with the local hot rod guys, the 4L80 is a popular hot rod transmission and shops they deal with would be more likely to welcome you, many shops rather just deal with soccer moms etc.

    My 4L80E trouble codes

It also would not be a bad idea to drop the pan and change the filter and look at the pan, if there is a significant pile of clutch material in the pan then it is pretty much game over, a small amount of "sludge" is normal, metallic flakes not so normal. This is a BAD transmission!!

    My 4L80E trouble codes

It needs to be diagnosed, you could have sensor failures and slipping and going in and out of limp mode sometimes is caused buy a solenoid/valve failure, both relatively easy to repair. It is best to have someone familiar with the 4L80 to do the pressure testing, they know what the pressures...

    My 4L80E trouble codes

The mechanical side is the same as a civy transmission, they should be able to do basic troubleshooting such as putting a pressure gauge etc. The electrical side will likely be foreign to them, all the basic controls are the same but there is no civy port (OBD) to read the TCM but that...

    My 4L80E trouble codes

It is normal for it to read high when off as the torque converter sometimes drains back into the pan.

    My 4L80E trouble codes

In case you don't have this, if you think it is slipping the first step would be put a pressure gauge on it.

    4L80 limp mode no codes

A varistor is a surge protection device, unless it is shorted the circuit should work, if it is shorted cutting one lead should make the circuit work, but if the issue causing the surge is still there it will fry. Most likely if the surge was strong enough to blow the varistor the circuit is...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I would be a little nervous with that drier right next to my face

    60 Amp Regulator Help

IIRC the 4 terminal regulator has instructions on how to connect to a 3 wire alt, the wires are tagged so that should not be an issue, ask the dealer you are purchasing it from if it will work.

    M998 AC install

I am in the planning stages of installing AC in a M998 Basic truck, I will be installing this front evap. And the dual rear fender condensers. I have not decided yet on what secondary evap I will install yet, I have a RedDot unit, I may go with the standard unit that normally mounts between the...

    What Causes Fuel Tank Collapse?

Reminds me a story going around the dealership where I worked in the 70s A guy buys a VW Rabbit diesel, fills the tank and drives to Corpus Christi, around 130 miles, he can only get a little over a gallon of diesel in the tank, drives back to SA and again can only get a little over a gallon in...

    What Causes Fuel Tank Collapse?

I believe all the HMMWV caps are sealed, it depends on a vent line to vent the tank.

Driver of HMMWV dead after accident...

It is indeed unfortunate when anyone dies in an auto accident, one would think that at 31 he would have known better. Regardless my sympathy goes out to his loved ones. I do have to smile every time someone mentions the lack of safety features, my first car did not even come with seat belts...

Like a brick on a skateboard

Thanks, I have been using it for almost 50 years and it has not let me down yet. From their web site " Anti-seize is a lubricant that helps protect metal parts from corrosion and wear. " Certainly not saying there are not better products but considering the life this machine will have, as in...

    FAV engine rebuild

I don't have a clue,. Other than one persons account of the history I have seen no evidence that a 24V alt/starter was ever fitted to a FAV and even then he said the FAV was converted to 24V not actually stating the alt/starter was changed or what was actually done and nobody I have conversed...

    FAV engine rebuild

I have seen that photo, it could be a 12V-24V inverter a 24V-12V inverter, a battery isolator or maybe even a load balance device. The question I have is if the vehicle was converted to 24V why would any of those be necessary. Running the ign on 24V would be no problem, a simple resistor or 24V...

Like a brick on a skateboard

No the bars were way too stiff, there was not enough weight to compress the torsion bars, from the pictures I have seen of actual deployed FAVs that would not be the case as they were well overloaded, I did another write up about the bars, the FAV I have weighs less than a bug (1600lb), I ended...
