Assembled vehicles here in michigan still have to have a state certified vehicle inspector sign off on them...

    Have you googled the part # from the TM ? I would do that and compare part numbers with the site below. http://www.areds.com/wp-content/uploads/GM-Transfer-Case-CD-Web1.pdf found with a google search of NP 218 output seal. 6th hit on the list...

    They are 2 piece bolt together rims with a large o-ring between the 2 halves ( which are known to leak ).

    What color is the fluid ? Does it smell burnt. Have you changed the fluid and filter recently ( or at all ) ? It is a 30 year old truck , seals dry out and harden inside the transmission , mileage really doesn't matter.
