    M35a2 motor swap

And please put at least 5 gallons of oil in it if you haven't already.

    M35a2 motor swap

It is probably something simple yet irritating. Don't give up yet. Remember that it takes nearly 20 seconds running at 6-700 rpm to get oil pressure when there is already oil in the system. Spinning over via the starter motor only nets around 300 rpm. I would crank it and let it run on its own...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

So I suppose they must have had different cams from the factory, but went to the one standard cam when they were rebuilt for logistical purposes. That makes sense. So the differences are almost negligible. G, can you offer an explanation for the one differing spring in the timing advance units...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Alright good. That is useful information that I've not seen. Anyway, just this past couple days conversations with you guys brought out a little more information and a few more good educated opinions on the matter. I have two LDS 465-1a engines that I just acquired and will be making a swap...

    Bad turbo?

Looks like it is either going to be your injectors or turbo maybe. Only way to know is to pull the turbo off and check it out. Well, you don't have to pull it off. Just pull the intake pipe off of it and check for play and damaged vanes on the turbine wheel.

    Bad turbo?

Maybe the injectors are popping at too low pressure.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

And what you said right there is more useful than most of the rest of this thread. At least you acknowledge that there are some differences in the two other than a couple of turns of the fuel screw. That is what I'm getting at. Yes you can get power from both motors, but the LDS is more suited...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Ok, so like has been discussed here already, LDS pistons have better lubrication and a **little** more cooling. It also looks like much better quality machine work.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

Rusty, thanks for posting up some real information showing differences in the engines. If people keep insisting they are the same engine and you can just turn the fuel up on the LDT to achieve the same results and reliability, we will never find the truth.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

I can't comment on boost pressures as I do not have a boost pressure gauge, and I have seen wildly varying claims on boost numbers from other members in other threads here. And I don't doubt that the LDT can make LDS power when turned up, I just don't think it can do it within the same...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

I have to disagree. From what I've read( granted you've been on here much longer than I have) most of the failures happen when people go to turning he fuel up trying to make LDS power and/or are running the snot out of them. Some fail from improper rebuilding practices. The LDT 465-1d is just...

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

No, but I can't find anything stating the purpose of the different spring in the advance unit either though. There can only be so many reasons for it.

    Bad turbo?

    I forgot about that.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

You are right, it had more like 40-50 more horses. And it does have the same static injection timing, but I has a different timing curve. I believe that the different timing curve is what helps it keep the pistons from melting with the added power.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

You could modify it to do away with the cooling jacket. It has been done. The reason for it in the first place was for cold weather starting, not so much for cooling intake air temps. If you figure out how to stuff an intercooler in there the way things are please let me know.

    Bad turbo?

Yeah, turn the fuel up. More fuel will net you more boost.

They bought it so they have the capability of turning anybody's house into another Waco compound.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

This thread isn't about modding the two engines, it is about the differences between the two. But yes, the water mist works well as long as you have a large enough tank. It goes through water fast.

LDS VS LDT and the real differences

I read the thread. So far it looks like we have a different spring in the injector pump timing mechanism, modifying the timing curve, a different hydraulic head(possibly to deliver higher delivery pressure), in some cases we have different injectors, different pistons, Possibly a different cam...
