I force my upshifts by lifting right foot just before automatic shift is about to happen... have set the IP control for easy shifts.. The modulators will vary, and the cucv are famous for delayed shifts because of the IP control...of VACUUM
Dave was a rookie and only restored the one truck...it is a compendium of the articles he wrote for his magazine and is fine for the novice, but certainly not the purist who might want tobacco juice from the factory on his battery box cover...and chalk marks on the firewall.....and crooked...

The M1009 has one of the lowest numerical gear sets available... To get better mileage you need to put in an overdrive and take out everything in the truck which is heavy and is doing nothing to help you as creature comforts... go slow....put nice radial street...

The starter bolts are special GM and they recommend you not reuse them like head bolts because they stretch. I would suggest you just go to the GM dealer and get the new ones...Those darn manuals come into play again...Bolt, starter motor 15544950 10 x 1.5 x...
Looks like my yard here in VT.. I have done the same thing with my 2 M139s...except am keeping one whole for parades...Have all parts available for sale..

Steering stabilizer and steering knuckle shims...along with the wheel balance and even uneven tire pressure can contribute. Hubs disengaged?
Heck, from 1949 til now on original frames ain't too bad... look at some Cucvs if you wanna see rust... I just takes em apart from the trucks I scrap and a little wire brushing, and some good primer and OD topcoat and a $35 piece of glass and some black RTV and back in business... same for the...
I had a 12V one on hand when the aluminum head blew off the 24 volt one.. The 12Volter works fine and spins like heck! Don't crank too long, or the solder will run out!!... I am going to leave it in til it blows and by then the 24 volter should be back from "Charlie's" The local starter...
