    A Rising Phoenix: Proposed Re-Purpose

It does look like a cool idea. Hope that tool bed is 12' long so you can't bob it. I also share Gimp's curiosity about the crane. Love any truck with one mounted. What kind of business? Steve

    Changes to the classifeds

Things have tightened up a bit recently, and I think that was an improvement. I'd be disappointed to see it go the EBay direction. I've actually learned a lot from reading some of the more substantial dialog in classifieds. Sometimes a WTS/WTB brings out comments that wouldn't get a thread in...

    M101A2 Height Question

I don't wanna beat a dead horse but those are lowered M105A3s with surge brakes, built for a pickup or suburban. Take a look closely at the photos of the front. The cost of the base trailer is almost the same as the 101A3. I'd guess about $500 more for everything involved if you buy MV parts...

    M101A2 Height Question

Not sure if we're talking past each other on 'A3'. I was referring to an M105A3. That's what's in the link I posted. Much more bed, and the racks/bows/etc are fairly cheap. 101 anything is pricey compared to 105 anything. What you posted is somewhere in the market. Steve

    M101A2 Height Question

If you consider a 105, with your truck you'll be smart to pay the extra $ for an A3 to get the surge brakes. They come up occasionally at auction, and are a tad pricier when bought privately. I think there are some modified trailers available not too far from you in the classifieds. Worth...

    Weight of M105 trailer bed

I have (2) 105s - one mid-60s and a more modern galvanized. I'll bet there's a difference in weight, so I think Gimp's answer is the best working one. I wouldn't want my rig too close to the top end of a low number. I'd say it depends on the trailer, and the older the heavier. But my...

How do you preserve your M101/103/105 covers?

I looked up the 303 fabric instructions because I have as much canvas as vinyl. Canvas seems to be a supported application though they don't mention it. The part that gave me pause on mil canvas was, "...Use only on thoroughly clean textiles, free of soiling and cleaning agent residue. For...

    hot rod deuce and half

I hope that both you and Toxic bring your trucks to Sussex this April. Plenty of purists there (including me), but I'm almost certain there's a prize for 'Modified.' Actually, if you both show up, I think we should have 2 blue ribbons based on vintage. Just wonderful imagination and work...

New to the MV world and looking for events.

You can keep an eye on this link at MilitaryTrader. http://www.militarytrader.com/events It's not absolutely complete but there's quite a bit of various types of events. And there's the SS events forum: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?40-Upcoming-Events And while on the...

I think that the donations this year really do reflect the state of the economy far more than anything else. I heard that Picatinny had stopped distributing the week before the train due to low supplies. Two boxes for an impromptu day at WalMart is a pretty darned nice haul. The big stops on...

Hi, I am a new member and I am looking at a Deuce and a Half I would like to buy

I hope you can find someone. If not, has your research here come across this checklist? It's a good, methodical way of going over the truck for obvious trouble, probably in more detail than you'd do off the top of your head -- esp. with the excitement of considering a new truck. Steve

Sometimes a phone call is a lot more effective if you can get a number than an email or piece of paper. Usually the people running these things are pretty haggered. And that's not just limited to TfT. I'm involved in a couple of things that took over 2 years to get moving. Steve

    1943 Federal dump truck

Does it sorta look like this? Seems like there's a site dedicated to the company. http://www.federalmotortrucks.com/images/federal/1943%20model%202G%20%28Rob%20Bell,%20April%202001,%20135%20KB%29.jpg

One box works, esp when there's a Marine standing beside it. The piles in the train are made up from a lot of single boxes that are brought to it as a collection point. Just remember the tip-cup trick -- keep it enough in it to show that it's a going concern but just empty enough to show that...

    M35a3 Soft top dye/paint?

If my canvas was in good shape, I'd seriously consider having one made in the color I wanted rather than trying to dye or paint it. If there are preservatives on it (and you might not be able to tell), it could tend to reject the color change material. In addition to New Life, there's WeeBee...
