Can towing with the rear driveshaft connected cause case or transmission failure?

Gee, gotta ask: How far and how fast? Steve

dual wheeled M105 on GL ........

Old thread, I know, but after reading it several times, I'm not clear on how duals would have a wearing effect on the wheel bearings. Could somebody explain that? Thanks. Steve

Can towing with the rear driveshaft connected cause case or transmission failure?

I think that the variables are, '...any distance...' & '...50 - 55 mph...' Several of us have towed our '37s for 25 - 35 miles with no obvious ill effects, but the speed was 35 - 40 mph in each case. We also made sure all the fluids were right. Not saying I'd do it a lot but within that...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Tight fit is understood. The one I installed literally required my buddy to lie on the hood and push it in so I could latch it. Steve

Anyone know NAPA part number for in tank fuel filter.

I don't know if you would want to substitute, but Vintage Power Wagons is selling a repro in-tank filter for the M37 that might be just the ticket. A bit higher in price, however. Steve

2013 USS Torsk work weekend in Baltimore MD - seeking volunteers!

Hope you get a good turnout. A few of us try to do something similar for the diesel/electric boat USS Ling here in Hackensack. Sandy damage, building a parade float to advertise the museum, repair on other exhibits like the PBR and the like. It's an ongoing need for a very good cause. These...

    Painting questions

Unless you're using an approved direct-to-metal acrylic (which I doubt the paint your planning on is), I wouldn't trust rust converter to act as primer for latex (read water) based paint. Rust converters will often hold off flash rust for a rain or two but after that, it rusts. You're planning...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Did the replacement actually fit properly? I have one that didn't and it started to weep rust from the lower outboard corner within 90 days to boot. I don't mind paying for the replacement but it irritates me to buy junk. I'd like to find a reliable supplier. Steve

    Two M37s... good deal?

I tend to agree with 73M816 that changing ignition, brakes, maybe engine and transfer case can be be done. I've read some threads where each was done but it's a ton of time and money. I much prefer seeing M37s put back to either their GI condition or the CD, classic fire truck or whatever it...

M200 Trailer - Non Diamond Plate?

They did make them with plain metal. Only one I've seen. Now to find one like it. Steve

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

Naval Jelly, probably RO's rust reformer, and a number of other products that are probably based on phosphoric acid are good for penetrating pits where your abrasive can't reach and for holding off oxidation for a bit. If you don't mind the extra steps, it could be a good idea. I've just...

M200 Trailer - Non Diamond Plate?

The link worked. Thanks. I saw some of the newer ones w/out dualies and didn't pay enough attention on that link. I guess my take on diamond plate needs adjustment. Steve

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

RustOleum red is not the old RO red. There is a 2nd RO red 'industrial' formulation that's worth looking for. They're different formulas. Neither is the orignal one. Steve

M200 Trailer - Non Diamond Plate?

I agree. That's the photo I was looking for. Now to find a trailer w/ those fenders. Didn't mean discount that TM. I missed the earlier. I'm going to look up those other models. At least I now know that diamond plate is not a disqualifier. Steve

M200 Trailer - Non Diamond Plate?

Thanks for that info. I had seen that TM, but it's dated 1985, so I was looking for older. It also doesn't show fender or deck illustrations. All of the non-slip I have (and also the Ling's PBR deck) is sand paint. However, I didn't know about diamond plate in the half tracks. Any other...

M200 Trailer - Non Diamond Plate?

I've looked at a number of these but they're all either fender-less or have only diamond plate fenders, steps, decks, and the like. That seems too modern to fit with my other 50s -> 70s equipment. Roughly when were the M200s introduced? (Can't seem to find that.) Were they made with...

Helicopter Air Speciality (Calling all Military Trucks)!

Suggest changing the font color on the lower half to make it more readable. You're a bit out of my range, but good luck on a large turnout. Steve
