CUCV project - operation SO approval

Both of you drop me a pm. My taker never took on mine. I have two. Useing them as propane cannister holdres, but will live without for fellow CUCV'rs. I'll have to figure shipping plus $5.00 bucks, fair?

Hyd. winch / Air con. bracket.

Little worried it may be overtaxed as is. Already does the steering and brakes.

    Ebay starters...bad idea?

You can see it through the stereo opening. Large one is starter, others are volt gauge and gen2 relays.

Hyd. winch / Air con. bracket.

I see some of you run a hydraulic winch. I have one. Do you run a pump off of an aftermarket air conditioning bracket or what?

Most of my lights are out. Duh?

Windshield wipers and defroster: Clean the terminal connections. Lots of that sorta experiance up here where I live. Those crappy summer time wipers don't help either.

    Ebay starters...bad idea?

Clean that relay/solenoid as well. Make sure your brushes aren't stuck. I've given my little tractor several beaver swamp baths, and it affects all of the starter.

    Alternator ground question

Very much my bad, must of went dyslexic for a moment there. I'm glad you caught it. Just like someone did when I was told the drivers side was the #2 alternator.

    Alternator ground question

Drivers side is dedicated ground. Passenger can be either type. Your second picture is the ground. Is the brown and white wire to the water temp sender?

    cucv stereos

I placed mine on top of the dash, in front of the registration and inspection stickers. I used two screws to hold the box it slides into down, but double sided tape would work. As I had also put down a dash mat, I bought a yard of fleece at walmart and wrapped the stereo in that. Looks fine...

    doing that funky charging thing

Two gauges. One is 12 volt and chassis ground. The is 24 volt and grounded to 12 volt. It seems to be isolated to the #1 alternator. The #2 alternator actually always reads a few volts high, but swings up to its reading real promptly.

    doing that funky charging thing

Actually the Gen lights are fine, it's the #1 volt gauge that is off until the engine is revved. Sorry about the reply delay, been at work. So far as I know, even tho I put in gauges and extra fuse boxes, the dummy lights are still wired the same. I'd just like to figure this out.

    doing that funky charging thing

Well, wired, again, my alternator warning lights. 12v power to the left on, through the light, and 24v to the right one, through the other light. Both leads are fused. However, the number one alt still needs to be revved high to make it charge. I had both checked at a shop and both are fine...

    slipping out of 4wd

I didn't find anything loose or missing. I did adjust both of the shift linkages. Both the transmission and transfercase linkages adjustments came right loose and adjusted easy. That was a real pleasant surprise in a 23 year old NY truck.

    slipping out of 4wd

Thanks all. It has me wondering because it's all really tight, as in no slop at all in any of the shifters.

    slipping out of 4wd

On the way home today, took the wife out for lunch, my 4wd began slipping into free wheel. Somewhere between 4wd hi and 2wd. It did it 3 or 4 times before it finally would stay and got us home. Is there a shift linkage adjustment that may need to adjusted? I've also noticed of late my column...

    still learning "Gen Lights"

My Gen 1 light has been on, and the voltage only coming up when the engine is revved. Had the alt. checked out at a shop that specializes in alternator and starter rebuilding, and all is fine. Turns out the Generator dummy light wires are ground wires, like the water temp dummy light wire, and...

In order to rebuild one of the alternators, what parts should I ask for?

    Fuel gauge stuck

Not so likely the float. There is a coil of wire that the float swings a contact along, creating different electrical resistance as it does so. Wire can be broken. Contact bad, or just a bad connection or shorted area in a wire where you can get at it. Also, try pushing the gauge back into...
