Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT I posted a drwg of a HEMTT wheel in the tech bulletins section although I mis-labeled it 11X20 it's really 10X20. These are the wheels I'm running and you can see from the drwg what kind of offest they have.

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT I think I may have to trim off one of the bed supports on each side but other than that it measures out to be workable. I already know that two wheels with tires face to face will need a spacer about 8" thick to keep the tires from kissing at the ground. That much extra...

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT Kenny, I'm gonna pull a rear wheel and reverse it to see what kind of clearance I have and while it's up in the air I'll take a picture of the drum exposed. Not sure the big full air brake Rockwells have a flippable hub. The problem with most of the wheels I found, other...

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT P.S. Kenny, I thought bridge truck wheels were 6 lug. I'm running 5 ton axles that take 10 hole Budd wheels.

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT Kenny, how wide are bridge truck wheels? I'm thinking one stock 10X20 and one with the center pushed out to it's max. That way if I need a spacer it won't have to be 7" thick. If my tape measure doesn't lie, It still should be within legal limits. If that doesn't work I...

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: More on baby HEMTT Yeah, I'm still picking away at it in between working for the Nat'l Guard and trying to keep all my other plates in the air. The baby HEMTT sits out on my driveway and it's been kinda hard to get excited about laying under it in the rain as I don't have a shop like some...

    Aervoe Paint Warning

John, With the possible exceptions of "olive drab, desert tan or 383 green", I don't think very many of the mil spec colors are named except by the hobbyists, both scale modelers and us 12" to the foot guys. The 5 digit FS595b codes tell 1XXXX = gloss, 2XXXX = semi-gloss and 3XXXX = flat. Deeper...

    Aervoe Paint Warning

For the purists, and because most stuff surplussed these days has been CARC applied; if you're running CARC you need to use CARC as a touch-up. > For spot touch-ups we use a make-your-own-rattle-can kit that consists a spray head, small paint pot (little screw-on glass jar) and a cylinder of...

    Roboimpact question

I've yet to see an electric perform as well and an air impact. A friend has a 1/2" Ingersol Rand that regularly bailed out my 3/4" DeWalt. I've now gone to air and I like it but had to make sure my hoses had sufficient capacity to feed the tool; the little pigtail hoses don't flow enough volume...

    Leaf spring problem

Companys making/selling u-bolts will tell you that the bolts and nuts are different thread types (standard and rolled) so they self-lock when assembled. At the very least, don't re-use the nuts because repeated dis-assembly and re-assembly weakens them. It also stretches the u-bolts. True...

Positive wire from Alt to firewall of M1009

Not exactly sure but if it is a fusable link then any inline fuse of the same amp rating should do. Wouldn't be "original" but would be a heck of a lot easier to spot troubles than a bad fusable link. Not sure who's bright idea fusable links were but they're sure miserable to those not familiar...

    Unimog 404 brake issue

I've run into pinched steel lines where they run along the axle housing or down the torque tubes. Another odd problem is that the flex lines from frame to torque tubes sometimes delaminate and brake fluid "inflates" the rubber between the layers closing off the inner passage. Since these trucks...

    Jeep emblem

Ace, that's where this one was; on the pass side down low by the rear tip of the fender. Musta be a short-lived thing. Can't be too many of them out there.

    CARC Help!

Yep, Alfa's is $66.00/gal. The CARC I ordered from them is within it's shelf life date and is the one part stuff. Moisture in the air is what makes it kick off.

    Jeep emblem

Thanks for the response but mine came off of a 1950 Jeep Utility (station wagon) I used to own. Thought they all had them but mine is/was the only one I ever saw the emblem on.

    Jeep emblem

I came up with this stamped brass emblem some years ago and just ran across it again in my hunt for something completely different. Anybody shed some light on it's original application?

    Towbar adapter machining... rdixiemiller?

RE: towbar Right Bjorn and that's what we tow with. We'll move one with another cargo if only to get it off to the side of the road but no long hauls with them.

    Towbar adapter machining... rdixiemiller?

RE: Re: RE: Towbar adapter machining... rdixiemiller? The originals are forgings and my biggest concern would be strength of the finished part. I posted a thread on adapter cracking in conjunction with showing a broken one to my motor pool guys that got everybody excited enough to do a...
