Tight valves will also cause a hard start when hot issue..but not the no crank thing.

Ditto on the bucket full of fuel. Start it and let it sit. If the fuel bleeds back to the bucket, you have failed front seals. If it starts right up, there are issues on the truck.

What does it smell like, oil or fuel? Oil, could be a turbo. Fuel, could just be from not working it or plugged filters. Plugged filters can have so much restriction across them that the fuel is actually pulled apart making air bubbles. That in turn changes the injection timing due to the pump...
