What is a gunner hardtop? Haven't seen that since closed cab ww2 units....From a dealer with some sort of a warranty the price quoted is OK.. at an auction I would give $2500... heater? spare tire ? etc.
Totally the wrong thing to do.. with ether you get more compression pressure and force on engine parts due to its explosive force... By cranking with the starter you are just dragging the pistons and rods around and not hurting them. Oil pressure can come up for you if you leave the engine...
How often? Once in 30 years would be more often than they have had it... would be a good exercise for you as it is all at the top of the engine and it does not have to be running...do not know what "Civilian way" means...if you mean quick and easy, it is already that way...Military way would...

The wheelwell number is probably 0525-12345 or similar. You need to get a bill of sale from him for the particular vin on the truck and a statement that the truck is free of liens and encumbrances... and it really is only worth a grand for parts without good paper. Be careful...it may not be...
