Maybe I need a new bed...

No, did'nt sell it, traded for some stuff I needed. And yeah, now that I have the bed off, I'm going to get after some of the stuff that needed attention. I pulled the brake cable because it was frozen, I got a new one to go in. I'm going to power wash the truck and paint, hopefully at least...

Maybe I need a new bed...

Well here's an update! Eagle4g63 stopped by this morning and we pulled the bed off of my truck and got 'er up on his. Only had to use the sawzall once. :-P As usual with anything I do, it took a little longer than I thought, but got done in time for me to pick up the kid from marching band...

    She is a leaky one

For supplies, a deuce would be good. For personnel, I don't think current standards would permit it, no seatbelts, no ROPS. Now I'm not familiar with the wildfire side of firefighting, but from what I know from the structural side, I can't see them permitting it. Rollovers are a common source...

    Role reversal

That reminds me of the 5 ton wrecker we had in my old NG motor pool. It was a '54 with a gasser motor. We towed that POS more than any other vehicle in the motor pool, and we had a huge motor pool. It was the only gas truck we had, everything else was diesel. (excepting the 880 series pickups.)

It won't be irrelevant when someone else who uses the SEARCH function finds this thread and sees info regarding their state within THIS thread.

    Tow Chain, How'd I do?

It says "Made in USA" on the container. DOUBLE WIN!! But good reminder to look for the where it's made tag, I try to buy "Made In The USA" whenever I can. The politicians aren't going to fix that problem, it's up to US.

    Crane Spreader (M108A2)

Beds aren't particularly heavy, so a homemade spreader should be able to perform that duty without too much problem. Just make sure all the individual componets are well within the capacity for what you are lifting.

    Wheel cylinders

Personally, I think "dum" was worse. But good to see another Ohio guy anyway!

    no title for m35a2

I live in Ohio and I bought a truck without a title. (Despite what some people say, I couldn't lose on THIS deal) I was told to send a letter to the BMV explaining the details of how I got the truck and then I'd get a letter from the BMV enabling me to go to the county common pleas court to...

    Pictures of my new M35A3

I'm not much of an A3 fan, but it's nice to see another Ohio member! Welcome to the sickness.

    Deuce (Multifuel) just won't start

Yes, I had to use it on my old Cummins several times when I had a fuel line problem.

Yes you can get them stuck

Getting a deuce stuck is probably more due to a lack of lockers and poor traction than being underpowered. Most stuck deuces I've seen were still able to spin the tires, they just couldn't get any traction.

Yes you can get them stuck

How can those trucks be stuck?? You can still see the windshield!!

Enough wondering, Driving the Deuce to the insurance agents office

100K DEDUCTIBLE??? 2,000 miles doesn't seem like much, I'd want 5K just in case.

    LD 465 question

Thanks for the info, I was confused as to why it was designated an LD instead of an LDT. Maybe there was a batch of LD's built with turbo's and the TD blocks.

    Thanks Captain Obvious.

    LD 465 question

Where would it be stamped on the block? I figured there would be something on the data plate on the engine, but there's nothing obvious to me.

    LD 465 question

My deuce has an LD 465 in it that was rebuilt in '86. It now has a C turbo in it. My understanding is that LD's did not have turbo's. I really don't think any of the previous owners did anything at all to the truck after it was surplused. My question is, did they add the turbo during the...

    Fine thread bolts vs coarse

    Fine thread bolts vs coarse

Went down to Fastenal and ordered 6 doz. 3/8" bolts in 3/4, 1, and 1 1/4" lengths with nuts and 2 dozen washers. I also got 2 doz. 1/4" pan head bolts and nuts. It was about $65 for all of that. Grade 5 also.
