The 235/85 is a fine trailer tire. What are you towing with. I see no real reason to swap size unless it is to match the towing vehicle. Stick with "E" tires of a known brand and you should be just fine.

In reference to the steering wheel cracks, you OH guys should recognize those, they are expansion joints!
One must be courteous. I would drive over, let it idle in the drive and personally thanks him. Maybe offer to hold the flashlight for him. Moments like this are priceless and the one thing I miss most of deuce ownership.
I might add that a judiciously place weight (absolute rear of bed) of around 1000# will make the deuce much more friendly in snow. Putting the weight in the front of the bed, not so much.

The A5200GL locks from American are hard has hades! Not many cutters can cut them without some detempering. I've found it best to remove them with a cutoff wheel and a grinder. They laugh at Sawzall blades as well.
