They should work fine. Everything is the same as the rear. I plan to run seals on the front, because any leak from the boots will allow water or mud to get in the bearings. Gimpy is running no hubs on his truck, due to axle problems, and has seals to keep the road dirt/water out.
Only problem with different radiator is the bottom outlet would have to be exactly in the same spot. There is very little room for the lower hose to run.
I've installed an air gauge in place of the oil gauge, and hard plumbed a line to it. Works slow, due to small line, and a very small hole for the gauge. But it will tell you the oil pressure, with no electric.
On the oil pan, it does not take much of a dent on the bottom on the pan to block...
Another note... the gasser will be easier to start in the cold. I was able to hold 55-60 on the flats with the gasser engine, with new distributor and plugs.
Also another M108 owner here. About the most useful truck I've ever owned. You may think a crane is something that doesn't get much use. That is until you own one. Mine's always being used to load and move stuff around, makes life so much easier.
Mine was a gasser, and the engine did run...
