    OA 331 Oil Filter

I was in a hurry so I did the first two with gaskets. The outlet port is drilled all the way through for 1/2" NPT and is pretty close to the bottom so there isn't much gasket. But, so far no leaks. I do plan to do a few more improved with O-rings. The lower two bolts of the air compressor...

    OA 331 Oil Filter

There are three ports on the side of the engine block. One from the oil pump on the opposite side of the engine; one to the oil galley, and one which dumps into the pan. The adapter plate has openings to the oil pump and oil galley. I used an aftermarket spin-on adapter kit for a SBF; using...

    OA 331 Oil Filter

The later civvy REO/ Whites had a full flow filter and oil cooler. I bought one off of a junk engine but the filter elements are very hard to obtain. All that you need to do to convert to a spin on full flow setup is a universal aftermarket remote spin on filter adapter and a homemade plate...

    M35 gas engine info?

David makes a good point about NAPA's soft parts being current. Every surplus gasket set that I have bought was dried out. I used silicone to glue the valve cover gaskets but in the end, they were porous and leaked. The problem with the valve cover from NAPA was that it was too long...

    M35 gas engine info?

The engine was designed by REO; manufactured by both REO and Continental. It is 331 cubic inches and, unlike the GMC 302 in the M211, is really a truck engine. I know NAPA has gaskets; the usual surpllus houses should have the rest. Saturn has a water pump advertised on their web site. I...

    Need info on sprag t-case

The transmission only engages the rear sprag; when the transmission passes through neutral the spring in the transfer case engages the front sprag. Jack up a wheel and check. I am not sure how you will rig it up to be in neutral. The best is to remove the front driveshaft.

    Flexible heater ducting

I got mine at the local NAPA.

Filling the gas tank of a M211 - Do I need lead additive?

Lead was added because it was a cheap way to increase the octane. Supposedly, it is harder on the exhaust seats.

    Oil suggestions needed

Discussing oil is like religion, no one ever agrees. I would run normal gear lube in the tranny. I would fill the engine with straight 30 in the summer and 15-40 in the winter.

    OA 331

Parts will be much cheaper from the surplus houses. There is a guy selling gasket sets on ebay for ~$25 but they are all dried out, broken, or so porous that they leak. Forget about getting one complete good set. They are, however, good for the manifold sets, head gasket, etc. The gasket set...

    OA 331

I have a 331 powered bobbed deuce. I like it a lot because it is quiet and has reasonable power. The REO engines were around for about 20 years but I always get strange looks from the parts houses. You could look for an OH-200 which was a 400 cubic inches and 200 horsepower. Same external...

    Need M211/M135 thermostat GMC 302

You don't HAVE to tap into 12V for a civvy ignition system. Use enough ballast resistors to drop the current to 4A or less. I am using two standard 1.5 ohm ballast resistors and a 3 ohm pertronix coil.

Manual transmission in XM211 Hybrid ID Please

It is probably a clark 5 speed w/OD (same as CCKW). My M135 had one. I think that it was a common swap. Trouble is the low range is lost. I had a lever to engage the reverse overruning clutch in the transfer case. What does yours have?

    Sprag Adjustment

That may be what the operator's manual says, but as soon as you pass through neutral, the pressure is released from the linkage. The spring inside the transfer case causes it to move to the forward sprag. However, to most folks who have a malfunctioning sprag, the whole thing is academic. I...

    Sprag Adjustment

The best way to diagnose a worn out sprag is to take off the front drive cover and measure the dimesions of the sprag segments. There are two sprag clutches. One for forward and one for reverse. All of the forward drive sprag clutches that I have taken apart have been worn out. The rear...

    M211 axles VS M135 axles.

While I have not done it; I have heard that it can be done by flipping the hubs. I'd be surprised if GM would tool up for two different hubs.

how tight can I wind the Ld 465-1C

I think that the rule of thumb is a very loose approximation. Supposedly, wide small diameter bearings require less pressure to maintain an oil film and vice versa for large diameter narrow. More importantly, I think, is whether or not it is low oil pressure due to excessive oil clearances...

    60Amp on a Gasser

Did this two weeks ago. Used the generator to alternator conversion harness and the pulley from the generator. Worthwhile improvement.
