You will FRY the stock controller in no time doing this. The controller has a voltage sense wire that monitors the drop in voltage over time, helping to determine when to turn off the glow plugs. This circuit can NOT handle 24v, and is what usually fails the controllers (after the glow plugs...
What I dont understand, is the ONLY contact I have had on this issue, was a PM to the OLD site. (which I just found yesterday.)
I emailed you a response yesterday afternoon, and have heard NOTHING back.
So before you get your panties all in a wad about it, why dont you CONTACT us using the...
Good question.
I really havent come up with a way of moving them yet, as I dont really know who's pictures are who's.
You have the ability to create albums with the new setup really easy, by using the usercp.
I think at this point, lets go with the idea of creating new ones here... and if I...
jj, the issue has more to do with the automatic controller. The 60g's are a different resistance, and will not stay on for the appropriate amount of time. Also, there is a chance they wont last as long for this same reason.
Please help us build up our 5 ton article!
Here's a start:
Identification
There were 3 main series of 5 ton trucks used by the United States Military.
Here they are broken down by identifying characteristics and production years.
M39/G744 Series (1951-?)
Air filter mounted externally on...
If your truck is starting.... Your glow plugs are working some.
Isolating the relay shouldnt have any effect... UNLESS you have the wrong relay.
Resistor bank is on the firewall behind the engine. Power comes from the Power Blocks on the pass side of the firewall, to the resistor bank, and...
The CV joint is why I suggest just going for a new one... Every used one I have ever seen is worn!
But... I know budget... and I would probably go used first myself with as cheap as I am....
The problem is... nobody does them the same way, or of the same quality. Makes it VERY hard to troubleshoot over the internet.
With a stock setup... I can sit here and ask questions, get answers, and fix your truck without ever looking at it. I just cant do that with a modified setup, so I...
Your problem very well could be in the area of the starter relay under the dash. But honestly with the 12v hack... I have no clue what wiring was left, and what was removed. Really frustrates me when people do this to good trucks!
Well... you dont hold the power on it for real long... Only takes a couple seconds to see they are heating.
Sure, if you power them up for 15 seconds, you might have issues!
Any of the mid 80's front driveshafts with the 10 bolt front end should work.
Fleet Pride should have shafts in stock if you dont have a core... they just cost more!
I have a spare someplace, but I have no clue where. I mean NONE! If I remember, I can kick around for it tomorrow afternoon....
The AC60g's are ok for manual conversion, but they dont work as well with the controller, due to how the controller monitors the time length. I think they are a different resistance than the 'correct' plugs.
Yeah, it sounds like you have bad plugs. Granted, if your fuel did gel... your...
Trust me.. I know all about turbos & glow plugs... I have 2 in the burb I cant get to now that I put the 4" exhaust on.
Do the oil change... I think you will be in for a big surprise....
beau, they shouldnt need to cycle several times if the system is up to snuff.
I dont think you will find anyone local carrying the PROPER plugs.
I agree the plugs are likely an issue...
Although.... if the super cold was the first hint of any trouble, you might be right about the fuel...
Dont discount the springs just because they are only 2.5" wide vs 3". They will come with the proper bushings to accommodate the width, and should live up to the rating just fine.
First of all, I would not suggest using 60G's in a stock 1008.
Secondly... honestly, I wouldnt trust an ohm reading to be an end-all tell-all indication the plugs are good. You are much better off pulling each one, and powering them up to check them. I have measured a couple that indicate...
DING DING DING...
we have a couple of winners!
I was SHOCKED when I used IE today and saw this. It was almost offensive to look at! I suspect that some users wont notice it as much as others...
The whole point of my exercise was... if you have a hard time with the colors, and can tolerate...
I would suggest running down through the glow plug troubleshooting in the WIKI, and verify your system is working. Just because your plugs are 1.5 years old, doesnt mean they are still good.
I am also curious about your wiring layout. Any chance you can describe it better?
Also... was it you...
