you have to "pop test" it. That requires a test set-up to do adjustments. About 1,700 psi on the injector. It is not good to fool with injectors unless you are set up to adjust them.
You got a problem. The boxes are NOT the same, including the breaker and the windings. I am not sure about the voltage rectifier. Speddman probably can advise on the rectifier.

Could the gear cover be cracked? One of the four I stripped for parts had a cracked gear cover and the one I bought for a ridiculously high price last summer was perfect except for cracked gear cover on the exhaust side of the unit. Seeping oil leaks. Same gear cover for 002a and 003a...
Welcome to the board! Looks like you have a winner! It appears like there is a rebuild plaque above the data plate. If so, and it was done right. You have a new generator (practically speaking). The black box looks like a Solargizer control unit to maintain batteries.

I've noticed that a lot of the GL generators have Solargizers installed. Apparently units in the field found them useful as have I on the two I installed on mine.
