Pauline, Welcome to SteelSoldiers. I spent about 2 years living in your part of the UK when I was with the USAF at RAF Upper Heyford back in the early 90's.
Do a search site search for "bypass+FDC" and "manifold+heater" and you'll get some insite as to why some guys bypass and remove that stuff.
I would tap into the same place your slave recept. is connected (or where the wires on the recept. are hooked up to it). You'll have constant 24V off that.

Yes, if you can find an interstate dealer, they can usually get blems, and they a lot cheaper than new ones.
I just happen to know the interstate delivery driver for this area and had him get me 2.

That depends on how much shake there is. Alot and it will cup the tires pretty fast, or tear up sterring components.
Do you still have the weights and other related components from the CTIS on the wheel?
It's short. It bolts onto the end of the main shaft in the t-case. I have heard the some are held on with a small set screw on the side of the dog.

Yes it is. But atleast with the local dealer you can go drive it and if something that he supposedly "just replace" or "went thru" goes bad you can go let off some steam on him. With GL the only place to vent is here. And many of you on here knows how that ends up.
