GEP would have never used old GM heads at manufacture. So unless the engine you are looking at has been rebuilt by someone, it should have GEP sourced heads.

Maybe fluid too hot and maybe fluid has air entrainment. Too hot can be diagnosed with thermal gun, entrainment will be white foamy fluid.

Takes about 4 hours to pull the engine out and minimum of 8 to put a dressed engine back in. Your swimming pool engine might be rebuildable, knock the pistons out and see how bad the cyl wall pitting is. Might clean up at 020.
