It's expensive because everything you buy for it will be about 3 times what it's really worth. if you want your ac to be correctly and legally maintained then you will have to pay a mechanic a lot of money to do your yearly inspections and he will find things that must be replaced. oil changes...

this has already been tried by ernie. no elec fan will keep it cool in summer, might do the job in winter if you don't load it to max payload. do some searching and you will find lots of info on this topic.
I didn't like the bend on the pass side so they are being corrected.

thats how the AC in my lear jet works. it has an old ford truck compressor driven by a belted electric motor. be aware though it pulls a lot of amps. when I switch the ac on the startup amps spike to about 500a and come down to about 200 continuous.
