Just keep in mind with the M1009 if you want to run HMMWV tires you will have to get new wheels like Rock Crawlers or similar. There are threads about this that can give you more information. With a M1008 the studs match up so that is not needed.

I would not do it, I would just buy a M1008 off of auction. The M1031's are just cool to have, besides they are great trail vehicles for convoy's/rallys.....well besides having a wrecker that is. I have a M1008 now but looking to add a M1031 to my collection. -Dale

PM Westech or Doghead they will probably know more than I do, as I am still learning myself. But having gotten that out of the way sounds like you have a #2 alternator issue it may need a replacement. Mine does that just after start but goes away shortly after warm-up or if I rev it up some.
