5 ton winch on rear of deuce!

I'm here Kenny...just a lot of stuff going on at home. Everything a guy in love wants be put through (as I glance at my wedding band...) Anyhow, hey Dave, I don't think you really need to worry about cracking a spindle. That's a little odd to hear too. I've seen several deuce REO brush trucks...

Rockwell axle wheel studs and lugnuts?

Yeah...I had to change out a couple of tires from one side to the other and bring a new one into the group. My impact wrench is garbage I tried with what usually works (a 3/4" breaker with a 6' long pipe) and nothing. Went to a buddy's place tried his gun. Then he knew some people at a local...

    Pics of Super Singles

I had a guy that was interested in buying the five ton wheels and then I was gonna get a set of Stazworks double beadlock jobbies. The guy seems to have disappeared. I'll prolly get them made soon.

    New source for Locking hubs!

Bjorn, mechanical sympathy for the truck by not constantly back spinning 6.72:1 double reduction, not having to soak up the frisction that creates in lessened mpg, and easier steering...just to name a few.

    gauge and lighting alternatives

Just bought some SunPro's for the other M715. Gonna see if red LED's taped to the back will light them red. [^]

Thoughts on Front Locker Install Procedure

Good deal! Did you take the differential out of the rest of the chunk yet? I always put a punch mark on one cap and it's correxponding seat so that I'll be sure they're going back on the correct side. I also put a punch mark on the cap and one on the threaded side loading thing with all the...

    Seats...spring seats...air seats...

A buddy of mine just got a deuce and it has the air ride seat. Maybe I'm nuts here, but I don't like it. Just felt like I kept moving and bouncing and didn't make my foot feel comfortable on the gas pedal. I'm weird though.

Thoughts on Front Locker Install Procedure

So I take it that you're all with me and hate doing brake work...of nearly any kind? I was thinking that this may help someone not have to deal with that if they were to put in a front locker. I've done a bunch of work on Rockwells now and Deuce trucks and think I've got an idea that will make...

keep laying rubber anywhere I go- normal?

Somebody want to do something? Heh,heh...I've cut a lot of tires with a tire grooving tool and found MASSIVE improvements to Goodyear Custom Extra Grip, XL's, XML's...etc. What I'd try would be to cut out the center on an angle between two tread indents on the NDT. That would still leave a...

    Deuce Rear Axle Factoid

1Ton, I don't thinks it's gonna be possible to find a military design for the 2.5 tons that will allow a through drive for the Rockwell axles that we have. It's the first part of the double reduction and I don't see how a bolt on would do that...it would have to be an entirely different...

About $50 when you start heading west across Pa.

    Rockwell Mods

Heh,heh...yeah, I've got one of those Lincoln 'Tombstone' welders that I'm sure will make a couple of lockers down the road.

    Rockwell Mods

Hey Westech, did you see the gallery marked 'Rockwells?' That hole in the high clear pan from USAsuckmydix was how I pulled it out of the box!!! Supposed to be welded inside and out. That was a massive hole, like 1/8"...WHICH IS MASSIVE WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO HOLD OIL!!! Both pans leak. I'm...

    turn up the fuel....

One of the fellers at Memphis Equipment, PA. told me that the R6602's (gas 5 ton) had soft cranks and that people would regularly "unwind" them decelerating/engine braking. I asked him how many times he's actually seen this and he said they had ONE come in with a bad bearing after a big hill...

keep laying rubber anywhere I go- normal?

NDT's? If so...look at the actual contact patch you have. A skinny-weenie (see above post) sliver of slick, inch wide rubber. You SHOULD spin everywhere you go when you think of the torque and weight trying to get moving.

    New guy question

Yeah, you can swap it in as damn near a direct bolt in BUT...you'll need to make a couple things work. I bolted a 3053A to a big block and slapped it into a M715 truck. To swap a sbc or bbc into the deuce you'd need the correct bellhousing, flywheel and starter from a medium duty chevy truck...

    Rockwell Mods

The detroit will disengage when input is from the axle like decelerating or coasting BUT is locked ANYTIME power is applied from the driveshaft. The Mini-Spool is neat chunk of steel broached for the axle splines and locks both axles to each other all the time. In no way will one axle spin apart...

    Rockwell Mods

I'm doing some Rockwell steer rears for a guy for one of his projects and took a bunch of pics that you guys may dig. Shortside shaft was fine, longside was the worst I'd ever seen!!! Rusted, pitted, and the u-joint had 1/4" of play in it and was just flat annihilated. :skull: :freaked...

    Emergency Break Cable

Uh...why? You have the spring between them and the return spring. Just get a cable and GREASE THAT THING. Most of these never saw grease, as who'd think to grease a brake, and are frozen or really sticky. I had to heat and beat mine off then hone it and grease it. Works great now and I...

HOLY.......someone wanted this one bad LOL

I've pulled a few things out of GL too. You just gotta keep an eye on stuff...and hope the driveshafts are straight! Commenting on the fluctuations of pricing... My buddy just dropped $5000 for a clean dropside deuce, NO winch. We looked at it and I told him it felt about a grand high. He...
