Unless you are getting one heck of a deal on creosote oil, the point of if it will run is moot. Even if you can, should you? Read this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?15101-Bad-fuel-choice-I-ve-buggered-meself-now&highlight=
Perhaps hooking up with Wreckerman893 and...
That's actually a pretty solid looking 480. PTO shaft parts are easy to come up with. The NVG would be a great swap but will take some work to complete. Both are good options. I'd lean 5 speed.
With what Doghead says, in the front of the manuals there is a UOC chart. That chart lists a number and model of truck. Parts listed with that UOC number are used on that specific truck.
I have a pneumatic one that sits on a 35# pail. It's got a handle and wheels and is filled with synthetic grease. Long hose you drag with you. It's great for a deuce or big equipment but it's a bit much to roll out for a CUCV. I should just get the cordless wonder. Lord knows how much 35# of...
The dropside would actually be a little easier than a rigid bed. You could section out 3' with a recip saw and a sack of blades. Just remove the sides and do them after the fact. It could pretty much be done right on the truck but may be easier if you flip it. You can always put it back on...
Well, $600 is a little high for an M105 unless its pretty exceptional and has a nice cover. $600 is also kinda high for a dropside bed with troopseats unless it's exceptional or has a nice cover. I may get scorned for this but I think trailer beds look best on.....trailers! Why not chop 3'...
I would either use the 4L80E or the 700R4. When the 4L80E is working it can't be beat. I've seen more than one hurt from an aftermarket controller failure. I'm not too keen on electronics these days. The 700 has a more favorable OD ratio I think. Either way it sets you up to run actual CUCV...
Read the deuce FAQ. Many part numbers are there. At least some bulbs and a headlight as 24V stuff isn't at every parts house. Bring some handy magnetic lights. The LED ones you can stick in the cab, always needing extra lights to see gauges etc. I go NOWHERE without headlight to wear for...
Good deal. Yeah, they are quite loud for sure. As far as the points, my experience has been that once the points are filed, they carbon up super fast. Keep that in mind if you lose spark. The mags are pretty dependable themselves.
The fact that there are bolts and not hot rivets seals the deal on a gasser conversion. The original mount was hot riveted in place. When the truck was converted to multifuel they replaced the mount and bolted it in place. If you look at other deuces you will notice that your dash panel has a...
Gasser conversion for sure. Has the narrow gauge cluster. You say no data tag on axles? That makes perfect sense for the older trucks. Most had the numbers and dates stamped in them. Once you find these and post the info we can narrow down a build date pretty close. Check out post 33 in this...
