so the leak was where the high side port threads into the tube on the evaporator unit.
For the moment I pulled it out just a little, wrapped some teflon gas pipe tape around it, and tightened it back down.
I sprayed it all down with contact cleaner, will see in the morning if it is still...
One other different thing about it, all 4 sides were bolted on, like they cut everything but the corners off and started from there. All the pictures I can find of these shelters show them as single units, no side panels held on with bolts.
Didn't get a chance to look inside this time, but...
So on to a different thing I did over the weekend with a different trailer. Though only partially about the trailer, there isn't a "what did you do with your "other" equipment today" thread in the "other auxiliary equipment" page.
Helped with a recovery on a shelter. Wasn't much space behind...
So used it last weekend, it was hooked up to a buddy's Base-X 303 tent. Was enough to keep it comfortable in 90 degree weather in a field, and more than warm enough overnight. Not sure how much fuel I actually used as I put about 40 gallons into the tank on the way there, but everything worked...
So update, the system works great. In 80 degree weather and the AC on low I have to turn on the heater to keep from being too cold.
Only issue I'm having now is the high side port is leaking a little refrigerant. Coming from the side of the fitting, so I'm hoping it's an easy replacement...
The 6.5 GM is definitely better, it took care of a few issues with the 6.2, but also has some of it's own.
The 6.5 GEP is better than the 6.5 GM, took care of some metallurgy and heat soak issues still found in the GM block.
Look at it this way, if the 6.2 was better, then why did they stop...
No way that I know of to get rid of it.
When GM stopped manufacturing the blocks and Navistar took over (General Engine Products, or GEP for short) they changed the metallurgy of the block and I believe changed the design a little in order to take care of those issues.
Now that we have...
while physically possible, it's really not cost effective if you are trying to do it properly. Requires a bunch of new parts, lots of labor, and in the end most people will recommend that you just install a used 6.5 turbo motor and 4 speed transmission to install instead.
These aren't...
As for what oil to use, any good quality 15W40 will do.
Some people argue against synthetic claiming their stuff leaked after using it, but it has better protection than conventional does, especially for extreme weather.
As for filters, this list/ranking is pretty comprehensive...
Transmission is easy, look at the shifter. Will either have a park position or not. Park means 4 speed.
Engine you should pull the doghouse and look at the oil pump/tach drive...
it probably will fit, but you have to be very careful of the weight balance. A pickup truck doesn't care quite as much about the weight being a little to far forward or back anywhere near as much as a trailer will.
Not so much that it's bad, there's just no way to keep that many moving parts in the system from leaking. Unless you run the truck/compressor every day or two, you'll come out to the tires resting on the run flats, and then having to wait to drive until everything airs up. Trying to find and...
I've used the generator at one customer's location, but this is all my personal ready to go stuff. Gen is backup for my house, and the ECU was cheap and works as a load bank for running the gen under load (though I had to disconnect some of the heating coils as it's too much draw for this size...
ECU = Environmental Control Unit.
Fancy name for a combination of a heater and an air conditioner.
Not a dumb question, if you don't deal with these things then there is no reason to know the acronym, and there are so many acronyms these days that it's almost pointless to just do a broad...
Last year I bought a trailer chassis that had been for one of the gen/ECU setups. Didn't have the gen or ECU. It did have a couple small storage boxes and the fuel tank, but I removed those and painted what was left, as well as some clean up of rusting parts and whatnot. I had some wood 2x8s...
